    I finally hit the Dyno

Didn't quite get where we were planning to with the boost level but... it's still pretty good for my first custom turbo build. We were running into ignition break up at 12+ PSI. I'm running the NGK BKR7E's gapped at .22 or something like that. I think this setup still has 400 whp in it easily at 16 or 17 psi if I can figure out the ignition issue. I have some brand new OG Bremi OEM coils that I'm gonna start with because mine do look extremely old and a couple look like they may have been really hot.

This was the 12 PSI run, even there it had a small hiccup with the ignition unfortunately.

What size exhaust housing are you running? 12 cm?

    What compression are you at?

What fuel? What CR? How much ignition timing where you at with the misfire?

12cm housing, stock compression, E85 and around 14 or 15*

I'm no expert, but I would throw some more timing at it and think about getting a bigger turbo.

Eh, I like how the car drives with this turbo so I just want to make what this turbo can do and leave it at that. Just gotta figure out the misfire under higher boost. I just switched out all 6 coils with brand new ones and went a step colder on spark plugs. I don't really know if that fixed it or not yet.

I've turned it up to 15 PSI now and no spark issues so far. Going to be hitting up the dyno again soon and shooting for at least 400whp.

Any chance that 21 year old 202k mile valve springs are just old and weak and floating under boost at high RPM?

It should bolt well past 400. S256 is a comparable turbo to the HX35, and I'm on 8.5:1.....

Put more then 15 degrees into it. Creep up on it and check the plugs. Get them to all look the same (with individual cylinder trimming) and then start going up on timing.

What would you want to see for an AFR target in boost? IIRC was close to 11.5

You can run ethanol pretty fat and not lose power assuming you can light it off. If your already running into break up issues, running it fat wont help you with that. On above 1000whp, i target 11.2 until we are looking for every ounce of power.

Without wanting to sound like I know better (because I'm damned sure you have 100 times more experience than me) but on the dyno we found power to be made with E85 by not running rich. That said, it was dipping below 11. I sit around 11.8:1 to 12:1, but I'm hardly pushing shxt with 8.5:1 comp and 18psi.....

FWIW, I'm still running stock old coils with a 0.9mm gap - NGK Iridium. I don't recall right now what the dwell is set to.

At what boost level are you running .035 inch (.9 mm) plug gap?

I gapped mine at .022, did I go too far? I had the NGK Iridiums but it didn't like them even at 5 PSI. That was before switching the coils.

Is there really any benefit to running e85 fat since it cools so well?

Every setup is different, i just tuned a 600whp miata this past weekend that also liked it leaner. It ended up around 30psi and 16degrees on about 11.2-11.4 gas scale.

This is a perfect example of dont take anyones word for certain. Use it as guide lines. (like you did)
