Hello, looking for advise. 2002 330CI convert. Driving about 50mph and hear pop noise, battery light comes on and headlight indicator is red. Pull over and shut off. Belts are intact, restart and belts are turning, warning lights still on.Drove home got my meter out and read 10.5VDC with car running. Shut off motor and checked battery voltage and is 11.4VDC. Daytime running lights are out but my headlamps will work. Going to charge the battery and check more tomorrow in the daylight. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rich B
You need to replace the alternator or at least the voltage regulator. If the battery is old you should consider that too.

Be advised BMW sourced alternators for the E46 from Bosch and from Valeo, a French company. They are not interchangeable without major work. However, I’m betting it’s a Bosch 120amp alternator. If it is, I recommend you install a rebuilt alternator that’s been rebuilt by Bosch. It’ll come in a black box. It should come with a cooling duct at the rear. Don’t waste your time and money on a Duralast or other aftermarket alternator. They don’t last.
thanks, I got a rebuilt Bosh but couldn't get the nut loose for the fan and shroud removal. Found someone who will do it .
