Loose Ignition Coil ground shorts out DME?

I had a valve cover gasket repair on my 2006 X3.
and the shop left the ground wire to ignition coils 4, 5 and 6 loose.
Car had a bad miss and after rehooking the ground, cylinder 4 still not firing.
Replaced plugs, tested for bad coil, tested for short to ground, bad wire etc.
Computer scan by Bmw tech indicates DME (computer) is damaged. Is it likely a bad ground connection can short out the computer?

I would say it's definitely possible. If they were the ones that left the wire loose, then they should be on the hook for the repair.
