    AC oil compressor smell

I got a bad smell of Compressor oil through vents. AC unit is empty and I have a bad leak somewhere‘s dont see any oil spray in engine compartment so if I’m smelling it in the cab does that mean it is the Evaporator coil behind Dash? If I put dye in the system is there anyway to see the evaporator coil before I tear out the dash. 2004 x3

You hit the nail on the head. Sounds like the evap is leaking. Very, very common on E83 X3, as well as E46 3 series (they used the same exact units).

Yup x2 on evap. I just did mine last year, not a hard job if your a diy guy. I was suprised how easy the e83 dash comes out. Put dye in the system and check the drains where water drips out when you have the ac on
