Hey all! New guy here, first post. I picked up a pre-facelift wagon about a year ago. It has facelift headlights with DS2 bulbs and ballasts. Unfortunately, the bulbs are held in place by wire, as opposed to to a bulb base socket. I bought the bases, but they don't fit. What am i missing? I'd like to get everything to fit correctly. Thanks.
P.S.
This is just the first of many issues w/ the car. Many questions will follow, as I progress through the issues
Sounds like a kludge, where someone fitted HIDs to a halogen assembly. You may need new stuff.

The headlight assemblies are marked D2S on top, near the low beam side.
Posting some pictures of what you've got going on might help some of us identify what you're describing. There's any number of modifications that could have been performed to your housings so guessing what to prescribe to solve the problem(s) is difficult.

Still trying to figure out how to post pics, from my phone
Might be that you need these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hela-3-1-...YAAOSw7GNaxLJH
The D2S slots into them and then twists/locks into place in the Hella headlight and the ballast plugs into it from there
As said though, some pictures would be helpful

email them to me and I'll post them up. My phone doesn't cooperate with this forum, either. makenzie71@gmail.com
I have facelift lights on my '98 and didn't need to hold anything in with wire...but did have to do some finagling to get the corner light working correctly.

Yup, the op needs the adapters in the ebay link I provided

I looked at those adapters before, and wasn't sure if that would do the trick. Thank you all, for the confirmation. Does that mean that these light assemblies are not meant for HID?
Probably OEM Hella Halogen headlights with the xenons 'retrofitted'
I've done this to my 530i here across the Pond; a lot of folk do it as the halogen headlights aren't the best; the xenons make for a much improved upgrade!
All that's needed are those adapters (it must be those you get as they have the necessary slot for the D2S bulb to sit in) and then OEM ballasts and D2S bulbs of your choice etc
It's all plug n play

The car came with the ballasts, D2S bulbs and Hella headlamps, already installed. I've just been digging through, trying to find the right way to connect them, as opposed to the wire that the previous owner had used
Just those adapters then

So hopefully, if USPS holds up their end of the bargain, I should have e the adapters Wednesday.
Found another issue.... I polished my headlights, a little, just to see if difference could be made and it was a success. I really need to go back over and do it again, to do a better job. With that being said, I can see that I have two different headlights; one with and Amber parking/turn signal, the other with clear. I was playing around under the hood, and noticed that neither socket, for the parking/turn signals was mounted to the headlights, they were just sitting in place. Which sockets do I need to make it right? The current ones obviously don't fit. I had e another set of sockets, but they don't seem to fit either. The spares have part number 63 12 6 908 408.9 on them, and utilize bulb 3457.
I just sent you a PM about the headlight parts you might need.
