real time help needed, lifter replacement

I began the process of replacing valve cover gaskets, valve seals and lifters last night...I have the sealey spring compressor tool, but it's taken me 4 hours to replace one seal and one lifter...I can't for the life of me get enough clearance to get the button on top of the valve stem in. I've read a post where a guy loosened the cam holders, to allow the follower to rise and give more clearance...is this advisable?

anyone have any tricks to this? i'm losing my mind here...

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated....

Hmmm I had no such issues, I don't remember what valve tool I was using. Can you post a pic of the problem?
