Has anyone experienced this?
Same vehicle.
MID #1: pressing 1000 and 10 brings up "TEST NR." for hidden test menu. All works normal.
Unplug MID #1, change to MID #2 (housing has same part number)
MID #2: pressing 1000 and 10 has no effect. The buttons work fine individually (I can set the time and date using the 1000, 100, 10 and 1 buttons)
You can only access the MID service menu if no check control messages are on the display. So repeatedly press the [CHECK] button until the display goes blank or one of normal information screens (consumption, temperature,...) appears. From then on the [1000]+[10] key combination should work.
bump - anyone?
Ah, that means all us MID developers can now chime in.
Here, some blah-blah-blah. Interesting but not very helpful.

Background, the communications board within the e31 MID is replaced with my design, to do all the things that people fantasize their MID's as doing...
...including taking output from other ECU's such as my version of a Ford EEC-IV, currently heading towards my van.

Along the way I had to scan the original key board, but was skeptical ahead of time that it was capable of revealing the two simultaneous key presses needed to implement the standard feature set.
Thought so. On my bench anyway, the '10' key was masking out the '1000'.
After fussing over it, I dropped that code dev down further on my ToDo list.
Ordinarily I would drop this feature dev much much further down the list, but the factory spec says it is the way, it can be done.
Therefore I'll be back, sooner rather than later.
