I have owned this car for 5 years. I purchased it from a whole seller in Phoenix who bought it at auction after a trade in with 142,000 miles.
After my purchase, to my surprise, I spoke to the original owner who lived in the same town I did in New Mexico. He supplied me with all the previous maintenance records back to 50,000 miles. He indicated that the only reason for trading was that both him and his wife just had hip replacement procedures and that the seats were uncomfortable. He also said that all the mileage was highway miles. Nice guy in his early 70's I suspect. I had no reason to doubt him.
I wasn't looking for a BMW but after looking for a month, after my car got totaled, this was the cleanest car for the money I had looked at in the Phoenix area, period. I bought on the spot. And have enjoyed it so much I recently bought a 2003 M5.
I'm an enthusaist in my early 60's and a self taught mechanic that will fix and maintain all my vehicles (don't trust shops and I'm frugal).
ENGINE AND TRANS- Timming chain rails, chain tensioners, spark plugs, ccv, belt rollers, belts,vanos seals, antifreeze,radiator, ALL hoses valley pan, trans and rear dif fluid, and all seals done maybe 2000 miles ago. Runs without falult.
Engine, transmission and rear subframe mounts within 10,000 miles. E60 shifter.
SUSPENSION- Billstein sport shocks at 145,000 miles including all associated hardware. Powerflex bushings at suspension refresh at 171k.
Brakes- Rebuilt calipers, new rotors and pads, steel braided lines, fluid @ 201,000mi.
EXTERIOR/INTERIOR- Aftermarket rear bumper installed after a parking lot incident cracked the original. Front cover, headlights and hood were replaced after hitting a long horn sheep. No airbag deployment. 3M front covering(not professional install). Interior is clean and leather is VG for age. New Windshield.
Maintennace is documented. Oil changes every 5k+/-. Fresh oil change last week. All cooling hoses done, new radiator.
A great car I'd drive anywhere. Mileage [highway] now at 205,00 Paul
