Hey everyone.
Would like to hear your opinion guys on stock suspension vs upgrade to
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bilstein-B1...EAAOSw3pZa2lCq
A while ago i did speak to Shogun and he helped me with contacts in Poland, business rebuilding all sorts of bmw shocks, service not cheap and they asking for $1k USD for 2 front struts+shipping cost, so i will end up spending roughly about $1300 just for 2 front struts.
So the question is: Is it worth spending $1300 on rebuilding front edc shocks or not? It is very difficult for myself to challenge as i never drove a car with a good and properly running edc shocks. I am not a big fan of sport suspension as i did find it very rough, more of the cruising style.
Cheers guys.
My opinion: EDC is too expensive and the benefits are limited, just S = sports = harder or K = comfort. I would go for a normal set-up.
But probably you also need some additional items to change from EDCI to normal sus.
Maybe someone has experience with it and can tell you.
Note: in the link to B12 it says: •Ergänzungsartikel/Ergänzende Info 2: Niveauregulierung nach Umbau inaktiv = LAD will be not active after conversion to B12.
So you have to eliminate the dual power steering pump part for the LAD, on the German forum someone recently did not make a U-turn tube for the lines, he just took out of the pump the piston and the spring for the LAD pump and closed the hole with a normal bolt.
Here I posted something back on 2007 but not sure if that is 100% correct http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/354209/

Needed: new or used strut housings, wheel hubs, springs and struts, shock mounts.
---Bro...where I sit on this is do NOT purchase one or two EDC shocks for this car. The business about the computer being goofed up is baloney...perhaps the computer for the EDC which is separate from the other computers in the car but so what if you eliminate the EDC which is clearly what I would do. Your next step is simply to determine which parts are not common between EDC and a std. front suspension for these cars...pretty easy John...get out your ETK and print out both set ups and compare part numbers for the same model year car. Even if you need new front strut housings...they are very cheap from a wrecker...and now you can put fresh shocks in there for $80 versus $800+ per copy...no comparison. That is what I would do. Find a parted out E-32 or possibly an E-34 will be the same for parts...simply do your used parts shopping from the ETK. Stay away from early E-32's as their front hardware was a bit different...find '89 on hardware to swap out...you will be way ahead. If you have 100K on all your components, I would just go ahead and swap everything out if you are planning on keeping the car. If you are moving the car..find a used EDC shock as a temp fix. Edit: here we go, found a thread in the E38 forum which is actually about E32 conversion EDC to normal, now moved it to the E32 forum, here https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...rut-conversion
