Looking for a shop to reinforce M Coupe Trunk Floor / Subframe in SoCal

    Hey everyone,

I've been having a difficult time finding a competent shop to reinforce my Z3 M Coupe trunk floor at a reasonable rate (I know quality work costs $$$, but the rates I've gotten are way off from the rates I've seen people paying on the forums or from people I've spoken with). I can purchase the Forbes kit if that is easier for them to install or if the shop is able to fabricate their own that works as well. If you're a competent welder who works from his garage and has done this before, I am completely cool with that too. Also looking to get the camber / toe brackets, sway bar reinforcements welded, and all bushings in the rear replaced at the same time.

If anyone knows of a good shop, I appreciate the information very much.

Garage 54 the owner Ghery has a M Coupe as well so call and ask (818) 246-0949

There is a reason a shop will charge more than a forum member. They have to pay for the rent, utillities, tax, insurance, etc, and make a living to pay for their own home and expenses.

I have done RTAB and subframe reinforcements for E36/E46s but never had a chance to look under a Z3 M Coupe.

I would just get Randys kit as a shop doesn't have to spend the time to mock and fab everything up costing you more.

+1 on contacting Ghery at Garage 54-- he REALLY knows our cars and if they are not the right shop , he will know who is. Yes it is true if you find an individual that truly knows what they are doing it will be cheaper. My advice is absent someone with proven skills spend the money to have a reputable shop do the work.

    good luck Bill

Just being honest, but Ghery will probably have Castro Motorsport do the install as he doesn't fabricate. Castro Motorsport won't be the cheapest in town, but you get what you pay for.

I've spoken to both Ghery and Castro. Ghery actually told me straight up that he would have to outsource to a fabricator and I figured it would likely be Castro.

I may just do the prep work myself (removing sound deadening, cutting the trunk floor, etc) and find a competent welder to do the welding as it seems like a more cost effective option than dishing out some of the ridiculous prices I've been quoted.

Castro was actually fairly reasonable in terms of pricing for overhauling the entire rear end so might end up going that route unless someone can chime in with another shop.

PS Hi Chris (its Syed). Don't you have a shoe of your own? Did you have the reinforcement done yet?

    Hey Syed,

Yeah I have my z3 coupe, but the rear end has no wear on the trunk floor or shock tower area, and I'll be selling it the summer any way. If I had done what I had originally planned to with it, which was to turbo it, then I would have had Castro do what he did to Ghery's coupe on mine.

Are you doing these in-house? Have you done any Z3 subframe reinforcements previously? Just wondering...

Yes, we do fabrication and welding in house. Have we done one? No. But we've only recently expanded our operations in to a full service shop. Do we have the skills to do it? Yes. If there is a kit available as mentioned above it would definitely make the work more cost effective since we won't have to fabricate parts.
