It seems if you're buying an actual, physical part or product, seems you might be OK. But the Repair services, where you send in your part in good-faith, seem to be highly risky if not straight FUBAR.
I posted my situation a few days ago on this thread so I'll spare you. Miraculously, FedEx was able to intercept my package that I overnighted and got the radio back to me. I've been asking for my $99 back for the CD33CD43 repair service. Email, chat, no dice. So I just reached out to him on eBay, and he responded quick... "Please in the future try not to do things like this."
(By this, I assume he means, don't find out that the service might be a scam, spend a lot of time with FedEx to turn my radio around, and then ask for my money back on a repair service I never used??) I respectfully told him, No problem, he can count on me not doing anything like this again.
I'm glad to hear some have had a good experience. I don't mean to bash. But there's an overwhelming majority of repair service stories that seem to all end very poorly. I saw the eBay reviews and how long this guy has been in the game, made me comfortable to trust him. Lesson learned, Caveat Emptor.
I'm truly grateful for this forum, by a small miracle my radio made it back thanks to FedEx intercepting and returning it. I'd love to know of anyone reputable that may do the service. Bavtek looks good?
Thanks Rob for posting and glad you received your items back. My experience was exactly like yours, where you spent a good amount of time researching and then pulling the trigger. Ten years ago, this was the go to company and remember many people on this forum recommending them. That all has changed in the last couple of years and don't ever think it will get better. I just hope people stumble upon this forum post before trusting this company with your personal property. Bavtek is the recommended company for the E31 OBC MID repair. Not sure of what other specialty items they do, but I'll be using them for my OBC MID repairs in the future.
I sent a GM5 central locking unit to “German Audio Tech” from my 2001 325i 3 weeks ago. Paid them $150.
Crickets.
Unresponsive to email, no voicemail response, won’t answer phone.
Fraud. Super pissed.
Yep!, consider it gone. My E34 M5 radio has been over 1 year now, eBay did absolutely nothing. I looked on BBB and considered filing a complaint. I am considering an attorney and to prove that he has committed theft. I have the documentation that he acknowledged receiving the radio and was working on the repair….then he went dark. I intend to make his extremely unprofessional business practices known, I think he has ripped quite a few people off. I suggest you reverse the charges and if you can ASAP file a negative review on eBay, eBay did not let my review stand….they appear to be enabling this unprofessional business practice. Good luck getting it back.

'89 735i, '91 850i, '81 MB 380SLC (For Sale), Tesla Model 3, and VW Passat TDI -- Yes, I still repair General Modules, DM for info!
Hi, Scott- E46 General Modules.......I think there is a market for you to do these as well. Over the last couple years, I have been buying unloved E46 Coupes, Tourings and Convertibles, caught up their deferred maintenance, cleaned them up and replaced worn out bits and such. These cars easily sell when freshened up and doing repairs and other service work is relatively easy. Of the four E46's I've purchased in the last two years, two of the cars needed GM repair. These were cars that had 100,000 miles on them. So, not really unexpected the GM's needed help.

Hopefully you paid with a credit card and can dispute it. I disputed my charge which (to no surprise) got their attention. They sent me back a crap trunk disc changer that was not my original one. It was jammed up with home made rap CDs (LOL! Not my jam). They then used that tracking info as proof that they completed the work. I went back and forth with the credit card (Discover) and they eventually ruled in my favor. I at least have a unit back (maybe not my original) but at least something. I'm fortunate that all I am out is the cost of the original outbound shipping. These guys just plain suck hard.
