    Headliner installation, pilliar repairs

Here are some photos of how I repairs some of the pillars after I put in the new headliner. I did not mess with the A pillars due to the fact that the lower end is wedged into the dash and the upper end is bolted. I trimmed some plumbers tape and used a hot glue gun. The holes aided manipulation and mechanical strength.

I used an old hacksaw blade to do the fix. Using dikes and visegrips, you can snap hacksaw blades like crackers. Then, hot glue it. I used another hacksaw blade to cut the groove i needed, which guarantees the width is the same. Getting the depth right is the most important part. Ill only have to remove them one more time when I get some black carpet and black door felts. I used some metal i bought at lowes on the lower pillars before the hacksaw blade discovery.

Nice work! Where did you get a new headliner from? I need one as well for my iL. How was it removing and installing in the vehicle?

As soon as you realize that you are going to bust a bunch of clips it's no sweat. the trickiest part is around the sunroof.

How did you determine exact location to glue in the flat blade pieces onto pillars?

I found some acrylic glue that seems to work well on the plastic to repair cracks and broken pieces. I am tempted to epoxy some light cloth onto pillar covers to add a bit of strength to them.

Do you think pieces of Velcro would hold pillars in place if I don't try to glue in clips and flat pins?

I bought some 'real' Alcantara fabric that does not have foam backing to recover the headliner, sunroof panels, and pillar covers on my car. Its a nice match with the leather seats. I just need to finish repairing pillar covers and 'defoam' the headliner and other pieces.

Has anyone tried 3D printing new pillar covers?
