I hope to get a quick answer and save me some searching.
I got a set of Mpars in trade for an old AC machine. They are 18x8, made in Italy. I pulled the one out of my trunk which is also an 18x8, is has a BMW PN and an M logo on the front. The wheels came off a 740i.
Did I get aftermarket mpars or did BMW change the supplier at some point or just have there name put on the wheel?
is there anything else on the back of the wheel? it should have a part number on it
The one out of the trunk has a BMW M logo on the front. On the back it is stamped with BMW and PN's ect. The other set just says 8J18 and made in Italy.
if it doesn't have the m logo or the recess for it, then it is most definitely a knockoff.
Definitely replicas.

Factory M-parallels are forged and the inside of the spokes are smooth. Most reps are cast and have rough relieved areas in the spokes.

BMW makes two types of MPars, forged and cast. Forged sell for $3000 at the dealer, cast $1500. Both prices are for sets of 4.

If the 8"x18" MPars you picked up don't have the BMW part nbr seen below...then you also need to check the offset specs....because you may have picked up e39 replica MPars which will have a 74.1mm center bore (instead of the 72.56mm center bore you need for the e38)...and have a wheel offset of 20mm (instead of the 13mm offset used on the e38 MPars):

Got it, I have replicas. I'll check the offset.
Here's how to fit replica M-Pars:

Just went out and took another look. The set I got in trade are cast and the spare in my trunk is forged. We'll see how good the cast rims are because I'm putting my track tires on them. The offset and hub should be fine.
Does anyone want my forged wheel? I have a bent cast wheel that will go in the truck. No reason to have a forged wheel sitting in the trunk it needs miles put on it.
FYI: as 740ilDuke said, E38 M Parallels are not forged.

Hi Timm, I appreciate this is an old post, but lately I've been considering replacing my Mpars for another set, and I'm struggling to find a similar deal to what you say you picked up on your website. Do you mind me asking where you bought yours from? And how are they holding up these days after a few years of weather?
Thanks in advance, Steve
Long gone I'm afraid - they stocked 18" M-Par reps for a very short time around 10 years ago, probably got nobbled by BMW!

The made in Italy reps that I have are nice - I picked them up from another member who splurged for a OE forged set for his e31. I think they are made by Fondmetal. These have the recess for the M badge, and are very close to the real ones. They are also 72.65 mm centerbore - so, not all reps are 74.1 mm.
