Anybody ever use laser spark plugs and have anything good bad or indifferent information to share about them?
Thanks

Never heard on 'em. Sounds like snake oil.
BMW specifies the NGK BKR6EQUP for all E39 engines.
Ed in San Jose '97 540i 6 speed aspensilber over aubergine leather. Build date 3/97. Golden Gate Chapter BMW CCA Nr 62319.
I knew a dude who was running plasma plugs in his turbo Audi few years back. HE loved them and said he got a good bump of whorespower from them. Installation / tuning was not trivial though I don't think though. For the system he had, it was not like "oh just toss plasma plugs in and go!" You basically need to do a whole big project and then retune ignition programming.

I’ve seen plasma coils.

Sounds like you got the right ones. BKR6EQUP say Laser Platinum on the box. BKR6EK are supposedly okay but you have to change them more often.
@geargrinder, what kind of Audi turbo engine was the change to plasma plugs done on, and did they help?
Wow! That's a lot of oil from that snake!
The core laminations are shaped exactly like those from inexpensive Chinese coils.

You’re not going to gain anything from a spark plug change. Just put the stock ones in it.
The only "gain" that you get from moving to modern technology as found in NGK Iridium IX plugs is a smoother idle, a better tip in acceleration, and a little better fuel economy at steady RPM when compared to a multi prong plugs. Nope no HP gains and if your butt dyno is weak you will never notice the improvement.
These plugs provide a lower voltage requirement to bridge the spark gap allowing a longer burn time (Mil secs) thereby giving the above results. Life span is the same as multi prong plugs. The multi prong plugs were a fad in the late 90's until precious metal plugs came along and stole the title of the latest and greatest technology in plugs.
Historical note: Champion Spark plugs Pioneered this technology with their H.O.T. plugs in the late 80's leveraging fine wire center electrodes and side straps (ground strap) that were hollow and had a copper core providing a higher temp at idle (no carbon fouling for small and big blocks w/Carbs and a lower wide open temp removing the risk of detonation issues with lower octane gasoline. Worked wonders on big block Chrysler and turbo applications by providing .2 secs in the Qtr mile and 1 minute on road racing tracks with out mods to the engine. The technology was an offshoot from their involvement in F1 racing during that time. Ferrari, McLearen, Mercedes and yep even Lambo efforts. I spent many a weekend proving this with race teams and with product XX bigots. Won over a few Ricer teams as well....
Buy the NGK, gap them at .032", replace your plug boot if so equipped and enjoy. Most everything else is "bench racing" so unless your ready to jump to race car extremes save your $$$.

The Multiple Spark Discharge (MSD) has been around since the '80s. They provide tremendous results in race engines, modified units, etc. Cars with big cams that run real rich at idle to 2500 RPM MSD type systems provide/allows full cyl fuel burns and better drive-ability. Porsche has used that technology 1975-87 as an OE application for the above reasons. With the advent of coil on plugs, fuel injection with O2 feedback systems, it does not provide as much return on investment. Never seen a dyno pull comparison on an BMW application with any real time benefits so until then I would say, spend your $$ else where.
