Automatic shift knob compatibility from other BMWs?

Hoping to install a better looking automatic shift knob that fits without modification, from my memory older X5 unit would work but not sure. Any other bmw models?
Want to get one with piano black center and leather on the sides..

You can always change the rod. Almost all of them fit or can be made to fit without issue.

You can use a 6 series one ( E64 ) with minor mods... ( mine is "Ruthenium" )

Can you please tell us what constitutes "minor mods"? One man's minor could be another's wasted weekend...

You have to use a bit of McGyver imagination in some cases, You can extract the old rod from the original knob to use in your new BMW knob, Sometimes extending the rod a tad helps lock it in place as well. I chose ACS Carbon to match other bits.

How do you extract the old rod from the old knob? It’s omly 27 year old plastic and I’m afraid to break it if I apply too much force.
