I pulled a differential from a junkyard and noticed it's kinda of hard to turn by hand when compared to other differentials I have. It is a 3.91 LSD small case diff. I changed the fluid out already. Could this be caused by the bearings on the diff or would it be the ring and pinion?
I think it might be toast! With new fluid in it, turn in by hand, both ways for a while and see if it loosens up. Any one of the bearings could cause a bind on a LSD. But I don't have high hopes for it.

I would drain the diff remove the back cover and inspect.See what could be making it bind. your other option is to disassemble and rebuild the diff. It's not hard to do. You will just need to get "lash" specs on the bearings.
