White Pony Resurrection - My road to 1000hp

Well I guess it's about time to make a build thread. I've haven't been too active lately as I've had other priorities but for those who don't know about 9 months ago I finally had a bottom end failure (stock m52 internals). I had around 15k miles on my gt35r setup and could have probably had many more but I accidentally pinched the vacuum hose on that goes to the turbo in the motor mount when I was lifting the engine up to remove an intake pipe to do maintenance. So that was all it took to boost to the moon and blow the bottom end haha.

So now it is time to rebuild. I originally was going to settle for something reasonable like 600-700whp, but I figure if I'm going to make big power i might as well make REALLY big power all the while knowing the frustrations and carnage that will come. So here's the plan...

    Motor.
    84.5mm m52
8.5:1 CP pistons w/ ceramic coated skirts
    135mm K1 rods
    s52 crank
    s52 cams

    Go fast hardware.
6870 twin scroll (changed to 369sxe divided 1.0ar)
AR designs v2 top mount (changed to otis top mount)
    115# injectors
    1245 treadstone intercooler
    Tial wastegates
    Tial BOV

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions along the way. Thanks so much for those that have helped thus far. On to the pictures....

This is where we started. Made 507/ 437 with 35r on pump fuel...

    [IMG][/IMG]

    Front clip removed...

    [IMG][/IMG]

    She's out!

    [IMG][/IMG]

    Tearing into it...

    [IMG][/IMG]

    Head off.

    [IMG][/IMG]

    The culprit!

    [IMG][/IMG]

I'll update pictures and progress as I go along.

Not enough injector for 1000whp. Just reread 1000hp.

Anyway that’s not enough injector for that turbo. I’m running 2250cc for it.

That's the perfect turbo for 1k whp but what cams are you going to be running? Also E85 and about 2000cc injectors are likely needed too as stated above. Higher compression pistons could help reach your goal with less boost i think....

Seems like straight e85 I may be able to hit 950 potentially with that turbo. I’m not actually sure anyone has made 1000whp on e85 only with this setup.

Even if I don’t hit that number I’ll still should be pretty damn quick at 950 or so... especially with my completely gutted 4dr :o

Small updates. Got the head back got it decked to 20RA and had a valve job done/ replaced seats etc etc. They pressure tested to 7psi just to make sure no valves were bent. I guess it's good to go...

Completely stripped the block. Now just need pistons to get the block over to the machinist.

    [/IMG]

In the meantime Precision just released a 6875 turbo. Not sure exactly what to think but it seems to be sitting in a sweet spot where maybe 1000whp could be made on straight e85. I'd love to hear some feedback from you guys that have experience with these bigger turbos.

    [IMG][/IMG]

Finally I measured all my ARP 2000 studs that I had in the motor (so used once). I found that all were within about a 10 thousanths range and none had stretched to over .015. Are these still safe to use again?

I'm not qualified to speak on behalf of engines making 1000HP, but if the studs are within ARP's specs, then they're good.

I would think for 1000hp you would be installing an ARP main stud kit, and rods come with ARPs usually.

What’s up with the yellow/ white/ green stuff for the main bearings? It seems one brand’s yellow is standard bore , but glyco has white as the standard bore...

Do colors used to denote tolerances vary from company to company?

I’m assuming standard bore will be what I’m after... but is a line hone really needed after you torque down the arp main studs if used? I’m assuming they are torqued to a higher spec that OEM main bolts are....

It's all explained in the TIS, I recommend that you get a copy (multi-disc sets on ebay usually $20.00 or less; might need a $25.00 laptop__with older Windows__to run it). Beats the Bentley manual 100:1.

your parts list is similar to what Im using. Should generate the same results with a few more parts.

Your car was the inspiration for me going this route. Part of me is having second thoughts about the extra 2500 bucks or so to go ar/ 6870 over rsi/ 369sxe.

With the extra 150whp also comes even more stuff underneath breaking. Prob will have to def go with the rpd big trans kit.

Just curious what your setup was before this. What does another 150whp feel like at these high numbers. Really noticeable?

Also meant to ask.... what was that big turbo m3 you ran in the video making for power. And the TT r8? Crazy awesome kills!

Update. I ran out of monies so I’m switching to a 369sxe with an rsi top mount manifold. That’ll prob get my jollies going until I can upgrade later and shoot for more power.

Anyone have a suggestion for back housing for the 369 turbo... there are a million options and was hoping some of you had experience. For now I don’t really plan on revving the car over 7250....

Also just realized that rods don't come with bearings. Do people usually just buy OEM size bearings and run it or is this a measure every rod tolerance and put in the correct bearing for each and every rod to get a perfect tolerance.

Don't know how exact of a science this is haha.

I would go with a larger AR on the 300 Series sxe turbo. They have a straight blade turbine which seems to spool very well, ask rajicase.

For a $1000 turbo, I would seriously look at the LS series PT7675 turbo. Plus, once you have mores monies, you can likely upgrade without having to redo the down pipe, (more direct swap).

You need to replace bearings that match the crank.

So each bearing size could be different? And what’s the gap supposed to be as it can’t be the EXACT same size

They can be the exact same size. Measure your crank for deviations of both main and rod bearings. Then pick a bearing that matches the clearance you want.

If all match order one set of bearings. If not assess your options.
