Anyone know if there are reinforced rear shock mounts out there for the e39 540/M5?

Don’t need it so they don’t exist. Our cars aren’t pieces of crap.
I've never seen one. You shouldn't need it. Buy Genuine BMW replacements and have your shop do the installation.

The question that needs to be asked is, Why are you asking? General Knowledge or coming from the 3 series world?

Thanks, guys. I'm asking due to the fact that I've now had TWO right rear shock mounts fail within a couple thousand miles. I had my indie install new Eibach ProKits with Koni Yellows, tasking them to also provide all the remaining necessary components, including the shock mounts. In that thread, we've all basically concluded that the install was probably done incorrectly (i.e. missing parts, parts in incorrect order/direction in the assembly, etc.). In both cases, the mounts were Lemforders. The springs and shocks are not the issue -- not broken, leaking, etc.
My indie is going to use Vaico mounts this time around. They're OEM quality, they tell me. I'm bringing the still-assembled original rear shock/spring assemblies that were pulled out several years ago from my car (original to the car from the factory) so that they have something to reference.
I'm going to the shop to get this fixed tomorrow and will report back.

No, Vaico is not OEM quality. They are eBay quality.
Witness the fact that FCP Euro sells exactly one Vaico part for our E39s: the fuel door hinge.

Understood. However, on FCP Euro, if you search for a rear shock mount for the M5, they only offer the Vaico. My car's an '03 MTech II -- equivalent in most ways, suspension-wise, with the M5. Different part number.
So a question about that: what's the difference between the 540 (part number 33521094091)and M5 (part number 33522229854) rear shock mount? My indie ordered the Vaico, given it's the M5-spec version.
Should I simply source the mounts from my local BMW dealer? They're always price-competitive, and I can get the parts faster than via FCP Euro, etc.

The M5 mount looks to have an extra or integral upper spring pad, for whatever reason. I'd still recommend against Vaico parts, IMO.

Just spoke with Turner Motorsports, and they confirmed that this is actually the same part. They also recommended the BMW part -- no surprise, since that's the direction I'd go, too. My challenge is that I need to get the car back on the road. It's a minimum of three business days until Turner would receive the part to ship to me. We were going to do the repair tomorrow.

I had both rear shock mounts die in my 03 m-techII within 12k miles after installing Bilstein B14s. Reason mine failed, the indy shop that installed did not include one of the required washers. ( I also hit some debris in the road that was bad enough to bend two rims on one side ) But both mounts failed. So I also went looking for stronger than stock options. Only foudn things that were meant to mate up to specific damper/coil over packages, and not an OEM type option. Ive only got 10K on them since I replaced them ( and the missing washer ) and so far so good.

http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?2302291 This was my thread looking for stronger mounts. GC options were recommended then.

Well, my hunch is that my indie forgot the support cup that goes underneath the mount and upper spring pad (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...h/33521090282/).
I'm struggling with what to do -- my mechanic can't warranty his labor if a part that failed is one that I provided. He can only source the Vaico rear shock mounts at the moment. I don't want to have any more issues with rear shock mounts after this, and I ALWAYS put in the best parts I can find and/or afford. Vaicos don't meet that sniff test. Still, it's on the mechanic if they didn't do the install correctly, and that caused parts to fail, so I'll likely order the Lemforders.

I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it: the flat-rate system does not promote holistic, careful repairs. :/

True dat. I've only had one mechanic who was consistently meticulous and whose work was always right, and that was back in the late 80s and early 90s. He took care of my 1980 Saab 900 EMS, and then my 1986 Audi 5000CS Turbo five-speed (super-rare car to find!). But he was a car nut through-and-through, also pursuing a successful rally-car career.
LOL.
WTF. Who would have guessed Vaico would bother making cheap E39 fuel door hinges.
FYI Peter, be aware there is no "Turner Motorsports" anymore. Well there is for me, but not for you... The 'real' TM, at the old HQ in Amesbury MA, is now just race team + a local Indy shop. The TM selling parts on the innerwebz is essentially a different color brand face to ECS, who bought them couple years back. So really its "until ECS would receive the part to ship to me..." Kind of bummer because around here we used to be able to run over and pickup orders and look at parts in person, but now all the mailorder stuff and Turner branded parts sales moved way to some massive call / fulfillment center in the cloud.

Hmmm, I’m flat rate, I do a great job placing a safe, well repaired vehicle back in its owners hands. Have not had any comebacks, and that record goes back years and years, and still going strong. Not every shop is stocked with idiots that don’t care about their work....

Yeah, I'm not sure rate-system 100% correlates with work quality, the primary factor is integrity and character.
However... I do know solid pro-techs who have told me yeah when they work under a fixed-rate pay-system, they are kinda incented to 'not do any extra' and probably even 'good guys' get sub-consciously incentivized to cut corners here and there, because cranking out jobs puts more money in their pocket, and seldom does anybody give 2 poops about them doing the 'extra good job' when they do...

Right. There's no 'actual customer', its just going back into the system and off to auction... Very different than "Mr. Whacknozzle is coming in to get it today and I'll see him when he does and he'll thank me for doing the job..."

Pete,
I would only use Lemfoerder or Sachs strut / shock mounts.
There is also some mounts from Ground Control:

Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …
We installed Lemforders today. Guess what we found?
- No support cup (sits under the shock mount and above the bump stop -- a CRITICAL part)
- No bump stop (they were supposed to have been installed, having first been cut shorter)
- Wrong washer at the top of the assembly (too small to prevent the shock from pulling out with downward movement)
The shop corrected everything for free and admitted their mistake. When they first installed my Eibach/Koni setup, they pulled out my Fortune Auto coil-overs, which didn't feature any of the OEM parts needed for the new setup. They should have known what parts to source, of course, but at least they were honest about everything.
Lucky for them, this time I thought to bring the original rear spring/shock assemblies, which I'm glad I'd kept when I'd put in the FA coil overs. They served as a reminder/example of the proper setup, and they also provided side of the parts we needed today.
Here's hoping this is the last I have to deal with this for a LOOOONG time.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. Yes, those support cups and bump stops are critical.
