1994 525i stuck in Park

I have a 1994 525i that is stuck in Park. When running, foot on brake, I can't shift it out of Park to even move it around. The "trigger" on the shifter seems to make no difference. The car sat in the driveway for a month and was able to be shifted with no problems previously.

Sounds like the brake light switch is stuck or may have failed. Try stomping on the brake pedal and push all the way to the floor a few times to see if it releases the switch. If that works it will most likely do it again unless you replace it. It's DIY-able if you choose.

Your shift cable may be seized at the trans end, particularly if the little rubber boot is missing or damaged.
