Hi; Tried SEARCH, came out empty: My car needs the throttle actuators replaced. I already bought the pair (aftermarket gears, electronics with lifetime warranty). My question: how difficult is it for a weekend mechanic? There's a video on YouTube that explains it very well, but... it doesn't give too much info on difficulty factor. Maybe the person doing it is a professional. Is this something a regular Joe can tackle? there's not really that much engine disassembly. Please advice.
The book says 6.5 hours for both. This will be for a pro with all the tools.
It's important to note that when you're done, you need to use ISTA to perform a test sequence on the new throttle motors, which I believe is what resets the adaptations.
Here are the actual factory directions, minus the pictures (sorry):

Important!
After performing work on the throttle valve system (throttle valve assembly, servomotor, Hall sensor), it is absolutely essential to carry out a throttle valve actuator system test with the BMW diagnosis system!
Function selection:
- Complete vehicle
- Drive
- Engine electronics
- Air supply
- Throttle valves
- Throttle valve actuator

Now clear the fault memory.

It's not a really difficult job, but there is a lot of room for error. It takes experience to remove all the hoses and vent lines without breaking anything. Also make sure all the rubber connections are properly seated on the throttle bodies.
