Hi everyone I have a 2011 750 Li , I just got some stuff called Engine Restore to clean the engine out a bit mixes with the oil ( thought I was doing a good deed but not ) and now it runs like crap I get the Drivetrain Malfunction warning and the service engine light any ideas why ?
Your car's computer knows exactly why it's turned on the warning lights, and you need to ask it to tell you, using a quality BMW diagnostic scan tool. ECS Tuning sells one made by Foxwell, for about $200, or I'm told that there's a Carly app which also does the job well on BMW's.
How many miles are on your car?
You should be aware that your engine/car are incredibly unreliable. The factory ran a "Customer Care Package" for years, after warranty ended, because they didn't want to call it a recall. The items included in this package included Mass Airflow sensors, the injectors, the timing chain, the battery....and more.
Against my warnings, my boss recently bought exactly your car, with 63,000 miles.....and the timing chain is bad.
Good news is that BMW has extended a $10,000 discount on the engine. You can now buy a replacement engine from the dealer for this car for only $2900 !
I know, that's putting the cart before the horse, since you haven't even hooked the car up to a good BMW diag tool yet......but really, that's a serious probability with this car.
It might actually be best for you to take the car to the dealership, or a top-of-the-line independednt BMW specialist shop which has ISTA, BMW's own diag computer. That machine can run a test and tell you whether the timing chain is faulty, no other diag tool can do that.

That's good news but I live in Canada .
I would suspect everything chris said would still apply.
The CEL is on - time to figure out why.
I cant say I’ve ever heard of an engine being discounted like that - is that all normal, chris?
'95 325iS - auto to manual swap done!
It's because BMW has stopped the Customer Care Package, so they're trying to still give owners a way out, I think. I've just sent a PM to Oznog with the information, but the part number for getting the engine CHEAP is 11 00 2 296 776 .
We paid $2900 and change, likely cheaper because we're a shop, but here it is for $3180:

You have to use this part number to get this price. The engine was shipped in a crate from BMW Germany, and I see absolutely no indication that it's anything but brand spanking new, although officially it's remanufactured.

What's really funny is that the salvage yards haven't caught on yet: They're selling 80,000 mile N63's for $6-8000 ! (No doubt with bad timing chains!)
