How to pop X3 hood from the outside

My 2007 x3 has a dead battery. Since my driver's side key hole is broken, I realized I have no way of getting into the car unless I can charge the battery which means I have to get the hood open so I can jump it via the terminals.

Anyone have an idea of how I can open the trunk without pulling the lever on the inside?

    Cool Maybe this will work.

I don't know if this trick works with an X3, but it works on my X5. If you have a factory trailer hitch with the big round connector, there is a pin with unswitched B+ available. I've heard of guys trickle charging the battery thru this connector to get their fob working again.

Put power to the license plate light after removing the bulb. It will power on the interior and your fob and latch should work.
