Anyone running VAC floor mounts in an E36 with an interior?

I just got the floor mount adaptor plates from VAC and tried to install them in my E36. They don't seem to fit at all. For those of you who installed these with an interior did you have to remove the plastic HVAC ducts from under the carpet? There doesn't appear to be any way to install the plates without crushing the ducting.

I have those plates with carpet. I believe i had to cut out the carpet on top of the where the floor would meet the VAC plate so its a metal-metal interface. Some people don't, but i wanted it that way. I also cut a flap in the carpet under the seat to gain access to stuff under the carpet. I believe i did have to cut out some of the ducting. I think i used tin snips to cut it out as needed.

I just put these in my E30. There is a similar issue. I just kind worked them in. It's much easier when you mount them to the seat & put the unit in as a whole (I switch seats for street to track use).

I had to cut the carpet to get them in. Kind of frustrating but luckily I didn't have to cut into the vent, only the carpet and underlying foam. I can get my seat closer to the tunnel than I expected so I'm pretty happy.

I just trimmed the part of the duct that was interfering with the mount - very easy to do.

I had to cut a small square of carpet near the front left hole, about 2-3".

I just bolted them down on the Carpet worked just fine. When you mount them just crank them down and everything will set in place. At least that's how it has worked with the two cars I've put them in.

Curious why you would use these with the carpet in place? I thought the purpose is to raise the floor back to the where the carpet should be after it is removed...

Didn't want to cut the carpet in case I wanted to ever de-track-ify the car.

It's been 8 years though, so....

Mine fit fine without trimming - just tighten them down. They do push the vent and carpet down some but it hasn't been an issue.
