I installed some speakers in my 97 e36 m3 the other day (non HK sound package) and I want to install and amp to power them. I already ran the RCAs and want to wire the speakers themselves now.
My plan is to run the wires straight from the Amp to te rear 6x9s, but rather than running speaker wire through the car and into the door, disconnect the factory amp to the left of the trunk, and use those speakers to power the front components (5.25 kick panel, and tweeter in door, delete the mid range).
Is that a bad idea?
And does anyone have a diagram of the stock amp Pin out and wire colors?
Thanks!
This should help you a bit, diagrams can be found in workshop manuals or perhaps through a Google search.

I just redid mine. I found a diagram here on the forums by searching thru google. If you can't find it or need help, let me know. The easiest way to do it is to cut the factory plug for the stock amp off and then reuse the factory wiring. That way you don't have to buy new wire and run it. If you get a 4-channel amp you can run your front and rear speakers off of one amp.
These are the wire colors for the front speakers. I don't have rear speakers anymore since Im running a sub in place of them, so I didnt bother to map rear speaker colors:
Front Right:
Tweeter - blue/black blue/brown
Door Panel midrange - blue/red blue/brown
Kick panel - blue/red blue/brown
Front Left:
Tweeter - yellow/red yellow/brown
Door panel midrange - yellow/black yellow/brown
Kick panel - blue/white blue/brown
The wires with brown stripes are the negative.
In order to install the tweeters in my door, I had to cut the factory plug off and crimp some new spade terminals on. My 5.25" speakers in the kick panel hooked directly up to the factory wiring.
What speakers did you install? I can recommend a good amp based on that. You want to match the RMS power of the amp to the RMS power of the speakers.
It does get a bit confusing because there are several blue/red wires. They are wrapped in pairs, but two of the pairs are the same color. The pair for the right kick panel is longer and heavier gauge than the one for the door midrange.

I would find it easier to preserve the stock wiring and use an adapter, perhaps one of these.
OP heres the pinout. I got two of them mixed up above it looks like
