    1998 318is for $1300? OR 1979 633CSI Project Car $1000

Came across this 79 633CSI. I can buy it for $1000.00. I've never restored a car before but I got YouTube and lots of tools!! Seriously, I can get this for a grand. I'm willing to put in the time and $$$ to restore. Solid car no rust.
Or do you think a 1998 318is (running 145k miles no rust/manual trans)/ for $1300 is a better deal? The 318 is solid/no rust or accidents but will need new paint/interior. As you can see, the 633 is a complete restore. Decisions, decisions!!

I’d go with the 633, as it may get you something by way of a return on your investment. It’s a decently rare able sought after car

I agree with the 633. The 318is is unlikely to be worth the money you put into it.

At that price point, neither car is going to be an investment.

The CSI is a way cooler car IMO but the 318 will be much easier to find parts for and almost certainly cheaper to fix up.

The one with the least rust if not into restoration and needing a usable car

We had a modded 79 Euro 635 that looked nice and ran great but they are old cars and need attention. They can be a labor of love to keep up. And you have to search around for parts. You should be a good DIYer or have a bunch of money to pay people. You would also want a 2nd car to drive when the 633 is down. Not a practical choice but if you want a classic car they are pretty cool. We sold ours a few years ago because we were not really into maintaining it (we had 7 cars at the time — down to 5 now).

Does the E24 have the thermal reactor still? The heads are very weak on those engines. The early M30 heads are thin in the area between the water jacket and exhaust valves. I just finished up rebuilding one that had a cracked head. Super cool car. If it does need a cylinder head the later ones are much beefier.

Here is the one I've been working on. '79 with 55k original miles. It has a bunch of Alpina parts installed when it was brand new by Miller Norbern, wheels, suspension, Supersprint headers and full exhaust, it even has a BMW CB radio. 2nd owner always garage kept. It isn't mine, a friend from work has owned it since '93.
