Master Cylinder - Cast Iron vs Aluminum --> How to tell

So other than the obvious "look to see what metal its made of", is there a way to tell which one I have while its still on the car? I want to order a rebuild kit for it and need a way to definitively tell before I do.

    -thanks

If you can't tell by looking, try a magnet, aluminum isn't magnetic.

Aluminum will be raw metal, while the cast iron part will most likely be painted black.

Ok, never have I had this much trouble ordering brake parts for a car :S

I have two options, a 7/8" master cylinder or a 15/16" master cylinder. The 7/8" specifies non ABS (my car doesn't have ABS), the 15/16" doesn't specify ABS or Non ABS....

Any idea which one I need? Pulling my hair out here....

Run your vin through realoem, (last 7 of vin)- It'll tell you what the car came with and show the correct part number.
