Is the car too 'draggy'?
McLaren's rivals did not share their view of the quality of their car last year.
Engineers from rival teams believed that the McLaren was quick in the corners because the car was running with too much drag - and that this was at least as much to blame for its lack of straight-line speed as the Honda engine.
Events so far this year suggest that McLaren could have misinterpreted the quality of their chassis - it is still the slowest in the speed traps despite switching engines.
Things never seemed to really add up last year, with the Honda powered McLarens being able to generally keep up with most cars until about half way down the straights where the drag differences would really show then just hitting a wall. They blamed it on "lack of electrical deployment," and maybe that was part of it, but their really slow trap speeds does lead one to believe they were carrying a ton of aero drag. Now that they're STILL the right there alongside Redbull in the speed traps at Shanghai (http://en.f1i.com/news/300743-shangh...p-fastest.html), but I think it's clear they aren't carrying anywhere near the downforce of the Redbulls. They're running about the same speed as Honda powered Toro Rosso, and honestly the two chassis aren't that far apart in the twisty bits.
So does it seem to anybody else that McLaren keeps playing the "we're going to go for podiums and wins.... soon" card a little too often while still running back in 11-15th place just like most of last year?
For their budget, they sure have been putting up some horrid results for years...
It’s bizarre, and it seems clear that the Honda p/u was far from their only issue.

Not surprising after he saw what a dud they produced in 2018. It's not getting any better anytime soon there...
In reality, we look forward to Alonso being linked with every team under the sun before he signs a new extension with McLaren.
Article nailed it. Alonso will get another nice raise.

At least their car is the proper shade of orange now.
Kharma. So tasty.
I think the orange and blue is pretty cool. It's a nicer orange than the original, too. I want to see them go for a serious throwback livery and run white and green a la M2B:
Interested in vintage cars? Ever thought about racing one?

Elva Courier build thread here!
yep LOL
I like the new livery. Best they’ve had since 2014, IMO.
