Hello,
Last week I ran out of gas and barely made it to the near by gas station. The car died right before I got to the pump.. Had to push it in.
After adding gas for about 40$, I try to start the car and it wouldnt start. I jump started it with jump cables and it did fire up.
Drove home, parked, turned the car off and that was it, couldnt get it to start again. I jumped started it again and it went on...Took it on a 25 minutes drive hoping it will recharge the battery but
nothing. Every time I shut it off, I have to jump start it.
Batter was purchase few months again.
New or not, I would still have the battery load tested. If you have a meter, check the voltage of the battery with the car off and while running. If the alternator was not charging the battery, the battery light would be on. Again, start simple, check your battery.
Your car info indicates a 2000 750iL...which would have the dual battery set-up. So...when you say you purchased new "batter"... did you mean to type "batteries" or "battery"? Perhaps you replaced the wrong battery...or you needed to replace BOTH batteries if you only replaced one.
The STARTER battery in the e38's dual battery set-up is the larger one on the bottom. The smaller (top) battery is the circuit battery:

It was the bottom one (larger one) that I replaced..
I replaced both batteries and am back up and running.
When I tested, the large bottom battery was dead dead...
Thanks for the update...and great you got things going.
