ive got a 97 e38 and need suspension, and it seems coilovers and factory replacement struts and springs are really close in price. and not knowing these cars well enough to know which is going to be better for good handling and smooth ride. i like how my car sits so lowering isnt my goal, mabey an inch or so at the most. also if anyone has recommendations on brand/model for either, or on suspension kits, front and rear, id appreciate it, because its hard to tell whats good and whats not. thanks in advance to everyone.
If you want any ride height change at all, you need aftermarket coilovers, either with height adjusters front and rear or with springs that lower it a fixed amount and aren't adjustable. If you don't care about changing ride height I'd encourage you to get OEM replacements for your worn out shocks and call it good. If you want to look at aftermarket brands, some to consider are Bilstein, H&R, Koni, and Ground Control (who also uses Koni).

u dont need coilovers......
buying stock stuff is fine , but if u want to go a bit lower consider HR or eibach spring set w/ a nice shock like koni or bilstein, even sachs
TCK or Dinan may have a non coilover spring set for you, I doubt GC sells a non coilover sprg set 4 u.
alpina or hartge may even have a nice kit for you
