Hi,
have been to Bimmerforums for about a year but never made any thread's for my project so i thought it was about time to make one
The plan for my e38 is to make a Drift/track car out of it. The reason i picked up a e38 is because i could get it for very cheap and it was a car not many have drifted with
i got if for about 1000$ which is really really cheap for a v8 driven car in Norway
The way i got it was to go to Sweden to buy it and then import it to Norway because the tax on cars is much lower there than in Norway. and because i didn't need to register it
i didn't have to pay any taxes when i imported it.
The same car in Norway would have cost me around $ 8000
The car was in a relatively good condition but it had been in a ditch at some point so the indicators and front bumper were gone / broken.
but the engine and gearbox were in good condition. i also had some rust in the floor and doors but nothing I could not fix, otherwise the paint was in good condition
i have YouTube page called Drifting limousine if you want to see it in action, its pretty poor quality editing i know but il try better this season.
or i have a insta page were il try posting some pics wile i finish my engine rebuild. il try to post pictures here to but i might forget to do it some times
As said - it's going to be a drift / track car so please come with tips. I am setting up a list of what's done and what to do with it in the future
Info about car / engine
M60B40
- Gearbox adapter plate for a E39 530d gearbox From pmc_tuning on eBay
- Flywheel also from Pmc tuning. and a stock 530d clutch and pressure plate - not a strong clutch to talk about. but it has worked well so far
i plan to get a stronger one when i finish the supercharger install.
- unknown brand coilovers but they work fine
- sparco bucket Seat only driver seat. cheap shitty bucket seat for the passenger
- custom length driveshaft,''shortened gear selector arm'' and a custom transmission mount
- shortshifter from a e30 also from pmc_tuning
- welded rear diff
- snap on-off steering wheel.
- 3'' custom made exhaust
- replaced the oem fuel tank and installed a 10.5 gallon fuel cell with a cheap 044 Bosch fuel pump copy.
- ducktail from an 200 sx and mustang window louver used on the hood of my car . Got the inspiration from nicky51
Wish List / Shopping List/ to do list
- Complete the engine rebuild I'm doing now
- custom supercharger Eaton m62/m90 (purchased - during assembly)
- Fezken chip or a PnP system of some sort
- Sinterclutch or something stronger than stock
- Make a roll cage -(considering whether screwed or welded)
- make a custom dual brake caliper setup.
- Get more steering Angle
- Powerflex - (not something i need right now)
- bigger nozzles with regard to supercharger (if needed)
- E85 setup? (under consideration)
- New Headlights and kidneys
- New glassfiber front bumper. the one i had disintegrated when i went of track once
Here are some pictures - it's with a phone not a SLR camera

WOW! I am speechless. Very cool.
1997 740iL; 5/96 build. Purchased 12/04. Off the road build project 2013 - 2021. back on road 3/2021. Became daily driver (only vehicle) 6/12/2021. Still not completed. Stay tuned as the adventure continues.
Wow, that’s a lot of work! Very cool!
Some pix not working for me, maybe it’s my phone?
Thanks both it have seen some work done to it haha il see what i can du about the pictures. They seem to work for me
I thought E38 had LSD options?
Status: Someone put glitter in my oil. Wait. Why's all my oil outside the engine? What's that knocking?
Some may have it. my didn't . I know some guys say the m5 lsd might fit with minor mods
Awesome! I paid $3000 for mine and have done mostly the usual E38 maintenance. I am looking forward to an M5 powertrain or maybe an LS swap. Right now I'm sticking to the cheap and easy way to go faster.
I also thought about pulling the M60 engine and put in a M5 engine but I could not afford it at the time when i judged between the M5 and the supercharger to get more horsepower. The M5 engine should fit right in with some minor modifications so its the ''easy way'', but it had been cool to see it with an LS engine. There are not many of those around I would think.

Awesome, this thing is sweet!
Not sure about rules in your area, but in the US bolt in cages are good for just about nothing, welded is usually required.
Hey Sig,
I really like the look of your hood louvers. I have been considering adding them to my car to reduce the heat soak issue. I am addinga 85c thermostat and will be using water wetter. I have been thinking about deleting my mech fan/clutch too (not sure I can get away with that in Phoenix Arizona.
But I like the look of your louvers and was just wondering. I see them on ebay (ABS) and they are pretty cheap.
Do you think they would look good on a daily driver? Do you think they would hold up?
wondering your thoughts? It will take a lot of nerve cutting into my hood for these, but I just may...
Thanks.

I have also come across this where the guy used hood vents off a Chevy Lumina Z34.

Im not sure how much it would help the heat soak issue. Btw the tape that follows along sucks you have to rivit or screw it down. But before you cut try to use the sucky tape and fasten it down to se if you like it or not. And be sure to messure 5-6 times before you cut but that said i think it looks cool
