Where to begin?
Let's start from the beginning. I was casually looking for wheels on Facebook for my E46 M3. See an Imola Red E46 M3 posted for sale with some nice wheels. In the background of said posting was the remnants of what I thought was an Z3M Coupe. PM the owner. Turns out it's a crashed rolling chassis. Is it for sale? "Anything is for sale for the right price". Oh ok. Turns out the crashed car was bought for parts by a shop in Dallas called Clown Shoe Motorsports. Seemingly enough, the owner was very nice and helped me in the process to get the car up to Boston.
Worked out a deal, and had the roller shipped up to Boston. Great 25th birthday present to myself!

Specs:
2000 Cosmos Black Metallic/Black Nappa Z3M Coupe
I'm the 3rd owner haha
67k (last recorded mileage)
Rollover (I assume at a track)
Clean title (Maybe too old to update the title)
So the car has no interior other than a dash. The sunroof looks like it took most of the hit so the roof is caved in. A Pillar is pretty mangled. No driveline. Has AC. Yay.
Plans:
I wasn't looking for a car, therefore this was a very much spontaneous decision and an expensive one at that. I was missing my old E36 M3's and hoped one day I'd have another one. Never did I think I would stumble across a wrecked Z3M that wasn't available to be fixed. Every once in a while I'd check CoPart and they still trend for decent money. So I almost had to do it. The M Coupe is one of my favorite BMW's so I had to make it work!

So first order of business was to strip the car of any parts to get to the bare chassis or at least close to it. Took all the exterior parts off the car except the roof and windshield.

Ayyy Coupe Cartel sticker! +100 WHP!
Will be ordering a new sunroofless roof panel to mock up and straighten the A pillar. Then continue to disassemble and eventually have the body acid dipped and seam welded and then hopefully powdercoated.
Ultimate Goals:
Z3M with a Single Turbo N54 and a 6MT
How you may ask?
Phase 2:

Just bought a crashed 07 335i 6MT RWD with a running N54 in it. Swap everything over to the Z3M and run JB4 with MHD backend flashes.

Wow, seems like an great project!
wow!!! you must have some skillz...
Good luck with your new project.
any history on this car here? it has a Coupe Cartel sticker on the window..
Best of luck with a project of this caliber. It is going to be great!
Sadly I think this is tractorcrusher's (Curtis's) old coupe. Here's the part out thread that Mark setup for it: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...aps&p=28717822. I'm happy to see it coming back to life again. It was sad to see it sitting in Clownshoe's lot when I was there.
this is going to be a fun one.

Thanks!
No skills lol. Learning as I go! And look below. I found the previous owner on Reddit of all places. I haven't told him yet.
Thanks! I hope so!
Indeed sir! I found the pic on Reddit and was like, that's why I'm pulling wrap off the roof, or what's left of the roof.
I hope so!

I wonder if any of my Coupe got a donated part. I bought it from Clown Shoe Motorsports.
Excited to see the progress!

Yep pics workin now. Awesome build plans. Look forward to it.
I will document it the best that I can, mainly for expenses lol. I bought it as a slow consistent project. Thought of going down the E36 M3 route again but a lot of the cars are trashed for the money people are asking for them. Hopefully this one will be better?
Not sure, I didn't know there was a part out thread here and I didn't know the previous owner was an active forum member until I noticed the Coupe Cartel sticker on the glass. I'm keep the glass in the car except the rear hatch. That's gonna be lexan.
Awesome! Same here man, I want to see this project move too lol.
That being said, if anyone has a lead on a stock hatch and or a stock 3.0 Z3 hatch I'd be willing to work out a deal. I'm having a very tough time finding a hatch for this thing lol

Did you keep the jerry can? I would have.
I'm curious how you will solve the problem of immobilizer with the MSD80 dme... and why you would do JB4 and MHD together. An MHD flash (custom, homemade, or pro) alone will have very similar effect. I realize that may be long away though. I would also upgrade the DME to MSD81 to get away from all the mosfet issues of MSD80. (not advertising sale of dme, but I do have 2 good MSD81s I need to get rid of, and I can program them used)
In another world and time, if I had the time, I would drop an M57/N57 3.0 diesel in it and make gobs of torque. What subframe....

So the plan was originally to transfer everything over from the 07 335 and *adapt* the Z3 body harness in line with that. I do realize that wiring this thing is gonna be much harder than the body work. The 335 I have is running car so I had hoped to basically make the DME think that it's still in a 335 to run correctly.
JB4 was gonna be for just boost controlling through the app etc. MHD was for the back end tune to basically allow the JB4 to do what I want.
We're still a long way from any of this happening but I'm sure I'll figure stuff out along the way. I may need a DME in the future, the one on the 335 got wet
It's currently next to my heater trying to dry it out the best I can. However finding a DME, CAS and Key all from the sale car is very hard to find lol.
2004 BMW ///M3 Carbon Black/Cinnamon 6 SPD Manuel
If the wet dme talks in any way down the 2 separate canbus systems it has, I can pull the data needed to make a spare dme. It's worth a try.
Then if I have the encrypted immobilizer data, I can make a plug and play dme for you. Without needing cas/dme/key sets. It will work with current CAS.

I did one 3 weeks ago that had 2 burned chips on it.. still managed to get the data needed out of it, after replacing the 2 components with ones from a spare.
Unfortunately it burned my K+DCAN cable.. but it was cheap.

Sharocks,
If you were like 3 years earlier with this I could have helped you out with a ton of parts. That being said, I do have a sunroof delete headliner and a stock suspension with 50k of use still. If you ever decided to pick up the free tires I could go over what else I have lingering in either my garage or my mothers garage.

Trying to avoid buying new, I work for BMW so I can them at better prices myself. I'd rather a non-M Z3 Coupe hatch just because of symmetry haha.
I will let you know for sure if I need another DME, I'm sure it's not bad to have a backup. Car is going to go through many revisions I'm sure. Luckily I'm a big fan of this car!
Hey man, I appreciate the lookout. I will see if I can make it out up there sometime in the next week or so. I could definitely use some misc. trim pieces.

Wasn't there a $300 hatch door for sale in Florida not long ago? I recall talking about it with Jon.
also, Sharocks, Where in Toronto are you (if you go back and forth from Boston to there?) my brother lives on the other side of the falls as well.

Probably try to afix it to the trunk somehow which is why I want a used one so I can experiment with it. Worst case I mount it to the rear bumper.

I'm in Boston for the majority of my time nowadays. I was at Yonge and Bloor for a long time. M3 basically just sat in a garage the whole time sadly.
2004 BMW ///M3 Carbon Black/Cinnamon 6 SPD Manuel
The euro models mounted the license plates on the trunk under the chrome strip, but US plates are too tall to fit here. I plan on modifying my plate very slightly, folding over just the white part on the top and bottom edge should give just enough clearance to fit under the hatch trim... was just curious if you had something else planned I think on the hatch is the only real option

If you can find the door or link me to it, I would greatly appreciate it!
Yea I like the fact that the Euro ones had the trunk release in the middle, the funky side trunk button always looked off to me at least. I was gonna modify the handle to accommodate a plate. Also the license plate light on the bumper is strange too haha.

There's a hatch on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/99-02-BMW-Z...AAAOSwwZtaeO6q
Seems pretty expensive though
