    Seafoam to flush the engine?

Has anyone used Seafoam to flush the engine just before the oil change ?

Don’t bother with the “engine flush.” Change the oil and filter at shorter intervals.

I use those two products only if the engine is excessively burning oil due to gunned up piston rings. Itherwise I only use 0-40w European Castro oil changed at 7500 mile increments. Why use sea foam? Great question. I personally would not.

    I used BG109. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmA4r6Izvns

I did not do a compression test but the engine seemed smoother. Running Shell T6 oil helps too. I can tell you, my motor is a smooth beast.

Yober.....To answer your question...Yes, I have used Seafoam fuel injection cleaner many times. I used it in my Audi a6 from 90k thru 200k. Whenever after about 10k the engine began to have a rough responce I added a can of Seafoam...and the engine began to run smooth...once again...several times...11 years it smoothed the engine. (fuel injectors build deposits at the nozzle) For diesel engines, more prevalent, we used raw 100% biodiesel to clean the injectors...With gassers, kerosene or modified such as Seafoam. Do it...then report back here your finding. You may have other issues...but start with Seafoam treatment.

To preclude the need for an injector cleaner buy only top tier gas. See www.toptiergas.com for retailers.

I had a gas smell in my departed 2001 330Ci. I changed the injector o-rings. The business end of each injector was pristine. Why? I buy nothing but top tier gas. Also, Techron is the best fuel system cleaner, imho.

A modern BMW will “run” on 89 octane gas as the engine gas knock sensors that tell the engine computer (DME) when the engine is knocking (premature ignition). 91 octane is fine in the US as our gas’ octane is the average of research octane and pump octane. Personally, I put Shell premium in my departed E46. I use the same gas in my 2018 M240i.

In my early years..1969-1970's was a higher octane readily available...now some 35 years ago...87 cents a gallon...an it was 'aircraft grade' Sunoco 101...later downgraed to 94 the now 93 octane......

I was at Virginia International Raceway a few weekends ago getting track time with my M240i. He’s a beast but drinks gas like crazy. I had to buy gas at the track: Sunoco 98 octane! Downside: it was $9 a gallon!
