Hello; I have a 2007 E63 with 70,000 miles, bought it used. I've noticed as I'm driving the car on level roads at perfectly normal speeds on local roads the DSC may come on, putting the car on limp mode. Drivable, but scant power. Sometimes the ABS sign does the same thing, even when I'm not doing any hard braking. Then occasionally an engine failure warning will come out, car is drivable but also under low power.
Any clues?
Have your car scanned for DTC's.
You will most likely need one that scans other computers besides the ecu, like ABS modules and such.
Car is going into limp mode to prevent further damage. Could be something minor or could be something major. Either way, get it scanned asap.
Hi; Thanks for your reply. One reply brings out another question:
What scanner would you recommend?
I would recommend a K+Dcan USB diagnostic cable with software like INPA for your laptop. You can find them on Ebay as a kit with cable and software for fairly cheap. Do a search on forums. theres a ton of helpful info on this topic.
After reading these posts, I've been using the car much less than I would like...
Bought a K+ DCAN USB INPA software kit for the humongous amount of... look it up on eBay... cheap !! Delivery sometime this week.
What little I have driven the car I can see that at times it runs great, some times the ABS malfunction sign comes up, no limp mode, just warning.
The real limp mode comes up when it says DSC malfunction.
In my humble ignorance. I would have guessed limp mode would come on if it detected something on the engine (throttle actuator discrepancies). Yes. the DSC malfunction does come up with a big orange engine sign.
While I get my scanner software, anybody have a clue?
