I figured out the flashlight/torch part but I'm lost as to where this cigarettes lighter is normally supposed to be. I also cannot find any decent pictures or diagrams that show what is going on.

My US spec '85 635CSi came with the same thing. I believe some PO added it to charge their cell phone.

Just a guess. Don't think they come from BMW that way. Is it wired to the flashlight base? It's probably added.

Not original BMW, probably previous owner made a connector there for power supply. Original version auxiliary power adapter that plugs in in place of the glove box flashlight providing a second cigarette lighter style socket for charging phones or powering radar detectors or GPS units is NLA, if you want one of the last ones, here http://vi.vipr.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayI...1&secureDesc=0

Hmmmm..... I guess it's a good thing? I may try to fancy it up a bit when remove the glove box for painting and refurbishment. I purchased the car with a thick dark mystery liquid in the glove and in the process of cleaning it I ruined the felt inside
