So, I’m in the market for a new (used) car. I really had my heart set on an F30 328i. During my research I started reading about the infamous timing chain issue, so I started considering the 320 only to find out that they also have the same N20/26 engine. I also read that starting in 2016, the 320 would be equipped with the all new B48 engine. I thought to myself “cool,” since 2016 models were the oldest I am considering for purchase. Then I read that only European market 320 models will be receiving the new B48 motor starting in 2016; US bound cars would continue receiving the N20/26 until 2019.
Am I worrying for nothing? I figured that if I get a CPO car, and it hasn’t had the upgraded timing chain components already added, I could probably request that as part of the deal?
For those of you that have 2016 and 17 320 models, could you confirm which motor is in your car?
Thanks.
