Hello all. My daughters car had a few lights pop up on the dash. Borrowed a friends BMW reader and it came back with the following:
5E5B ASC/DSC BUTTON
5E38 Rotation rate sensor
There was another code that confirmed the tensioner for driver side seatbelt. It cleared but these two will not.
Unsure what the 5E5B means. I will check the wheel speed sensor but no indication of which wheel?
Thanks.
There are several movement and acceleration sensors. They are used by the airbag system and the DSC. The rotation sensor could be one of those. Google “BMW E46 hidden OBC functions.” Go tobtesy #9. Get the volt and report back when the:
- ignition is in the run position with the engine off
- engine idling
- engine revving at 2000tpm.
Why? These cars are rolling computers and wacky voltages cause whacky problems.
Had the car been in an accident? I ask as accidents can result in damaged wiring. Perform test #9 and get back with the voltages. We’ll proceed from there.
Checked voltage and it was at 14.3.
No accidents. The light did come on after we replaced the front brakes.
Voltage is fine. Which light came on in the gauge cluster? Take a picture.
The DSCbutton failure could just be a bad switch in the console. Mine went out in the first year of ownership and was replaced under warranty.
My daughter has the car but these are the two lights that are yellow and am unable to clear the codes from:

I pulled the left front wheel sensor and blew it off. Found the spot in the obdc reader to monitor the data for the asc/dsc system and all four senders are working.
