I am looking at an 05 4.8is and the work done by the shop seems extensive. No other records are available. I know a PPI is recommended but I am looking for thoughts on the work done by the dealer.....
Oil (Liqui Moly 5-w30) and filter were replaced. Front / Rear differential as well as transfer case oil were replaced with BMW recommended oil. NGK spark plugs were installed. Radiator, thermostat, water pump as well as cooling hoses were replaced. New battery as well as motor mounts were installed. Valve seals, head gasket, pressure regulating valve and pipes were replaced. Ball joints, position arms, tie rods, sway bar links as well as front axles were replaced.
Thanks for some expert advice.
Bob
What's the mileage?
After what I've read on the BMW sites, I wouldn't touch a v8, much less an older one. Not expert opinion though, just mine

Milage is 120K.....I thought the engine was about head gaskets/etc and the cooling system. Since these have been done I wanted to know if that improved the outlook.
That depends on you bud. Again, only from what I've read, BMW doesn't know how to build a modern v8. I'd guess if you can live with an average of 10% of its original MSRP every year, you'll be ok. Your call.

You spend your money and take your chances.
I put 220k on 2002 4.4 when timing chain failed and trashed a couple of valves.
I didn't see anything done to transfer case or transmission. Past time for fluid/filter changes in both. Use only BMW fluid in transfer case and appropriate ZF in transmission.
Get PPI and follow mechanic's advise.
BMW v8's can be expensive to maintain, but hard to beat the performance.
