'00 323Ci radiator light comes on sometimes

See attached. Not sure if this is saying my thermostat is going out or low coolant. It goes away soon after starting. Does not always come on. Temperature gauge goes to about the middle when warmed up and stays there. Just replaced the radiator not long ago. Replaced upper and lower hoses also. What do you think this light means?

Coolant could be a little low, or the sensor in the coolant reservior may be going bad

Yes. The bulb is fine. I think it is the socket itself or something more fun I need to trace down.

I replaced my expansion tank and the indicator light comes on randomely. The sensor that came with the tank kept light on all the time. I reinstalled the original and now only sporadic.

    Try bleeding the system,
if still sporadic, replace with BMW Genuine sensor.

My 325xi has this issue with 3 of its lights. Both headlights and one taillight. The PO put in new HID's and angel eyes and I doubt he wired them correctly because the "bulb out" light on the dash is always on, but the headlights work fine. As for the taillight, I noticed that the rear brake light on the side that the dash indicates, lights up in the wrong spot. I doubt physically placing the bulb in a wrong spot would cause the computer to think it's out unless the PO put the bulb in the wrong socket. It's a bit of a mystery to me, and I know nothing about electrical or wiring apart from PC's (I'm a computer nerd; not an electrical nerd/mechanic). Any ideas on what I can do?

Temperature stays good. Light goes off after it warms up. Where is the sensor located?

Its located on the bottom of your expansion tank. I would check coolant level before a cold start. That's when the system is at its lowest.

Check it in the reservoir? I need to replace my cap.

when my temp/rad light came on after I started using the heater, it was that there was air trapped in the heater core and as soon as I turned the heat to full blast and bled the system I no longer got that annoying random rad/temp light flicker...so do a rad bleed/refill and you should be fine. god luck
