Looking to get a used 2011/2012 X3 and wondering how dependable the N55 (35i) would be in comparison to the N52 (28i). Does the added turbo on a 70k+ mile car = a headache? Looking to have the car for 5 years or so, keeping it garaged and maintained as needed. Done a bit of looking and havent seen anything specific about n55s going to complete shit, love to get a couple opinions here.
I have an N55 F10 535i, and a N52 F25 X3. Both are great vehicles, but with the N55, you do have a little more maintenance with the twin turbos. At 70k, you might check the turbos to see if they are leaking or in need of a rebuild. FWIW, I also have an F30 328i with the N26 2.0 turbo. That is a great motor, but I'm not sold on it's longevity. Plus, it doesn't sound very good.
Thanks, seems like the power gains arent worth the added maintenance with higher milage.. Going to keep looking for f25 28i's, they seems to be harder to find in my area with low miles, but sure ill find something.
Hey NELLISP, I have a 2011 BMW X3 for sale. Let me know if you are still looking for one.
