There is probably nothing cheaper that can support 600 lbs rwtq or more with reasonable reliability. A T56 Magnum is $3k plus $800 for the bellhousing, plus flywheel and clutch and brace and shaft and shifter. A C4 or other auto would need to be built and you need an adapter and brace and cooler and shifter. The only stronger drop in (same spline as ZF320) is the Euro E36M3 Getrag 420 but they are not common and expensive and not rated for as much torque as the GS6-53. The E46M3 Getrag 420 requires a different clutch and is likewise rated at only 420NM versus the 530NM of the ZF GS6-53, and is more expensive used to replace than the ZF if it does break.

Probably at least half the cost is the clutch and flywheel, and you need to spend about that much if you want a streetable clutch that can reliably hold this kind of power regardless of what trans you have, unless you have the ability to machine an older flywheel to fit a domestic clutch like one person has done.

Well said Phil. Even with the large buy-in and a generous bump to a tier 2 pricing-agreement they are still over half the cost..

I think said and done this is what it would cost you to put a 420 in with the same tier clutch.

Also guys since it’s been asked, I do have options for more power. Its only a difference in disk cost.

I will also be offering rebuild parts at cost through the website after these are off the ground. The rebuild costs are pretty reasonable, I don’t have the figures on hand.

If this option was available 8 years ago....I would probably have it in my car right now. (And have saved myself a TON of headaches)

A true flywheel to driveshaft transmission solution has never been offered before, I hope this goes really well for you!

The only one that will bolt on is a diesel ratio transmission. Which is not available in the USA. They are even rare within Europe.

Not a viable solution, and we covered this already.

Thanks, that why we pursued it. We really wanted to bolt on the biggest, most available, transmission that we could find.

Took some time to find and design all the little pieces. Pretty excited about the result.

Big Power Manual Transmission (S6-53) Swap

I have been asked and then offered this to several people now, so I will put it out there to help everyone as we wind down on the last week here. I know it’s a lot of money so this is what I can do.

I will offer to pre-sell half of a kit, for half the cost of the preorder. You will receive everything minus a clutch. I will ship this to you with the presale group.

When time comes that you can purchase the remainder I will ship you the clutch of your choice.

If you are interested in doing this please pm me and we can proceed from there, thank you

To everyone who has already pre-ordered a kit, thank you! As you all probably know, it takes a lot of resources to get things like this off the ground, and you guys make a huge difference.

I went ahead and added a no clutch option to the website:
    http://22rpd.com/item.php?item=367
The clutch will be available to this group at $1450 when they are ready.

The prototype flywheel finally got finished today so we will be doing testing this week at ~40psi. It took almost 10 weeks, long road.

We realize there was a bit of a short timeline on this preorder, so we will push the deadline to Friday 5/18/18 11:59 Pm Pacific. There will be no further extensions of this pricing, sorry
Thank you all again for supporting, looking forward to the results with you guys.

Yes it can but you’ll have to do something else for the output flange as it’s different.

Hey everybody we are long overdue for an update. I was traveling the last week in May, apologies for any info gap. I finally got the clutch in on Tuesday and went to install everything. The fit and finish of the clutch is perfect on the test motor. The dust shields are excellent. The transmission braces are very nice. The DSSR's are perfect.

The holdup is the adapter ring, the company accidentally ran these out of the prototype file somehow. It's funny because I renamed the final version "Final" and included it with the last two emails. I'm not sure where the exact breakdown was but I'm working with them to fix it. They made it clear that if it was their issue they would make them their first priority. I am confident that before the morning is out we will have it cleared up.

I would expect just shy of a week turn around on these. Sorry for the delays guys. I'll post some pictures later, but I wanted to go ahead and update everyone.

    ---Edit---
Just heard back from the machine shop and they found the issue. The guys on the floor didnt update their files. They already ordered stock and will make it top priority.

Your edit is what I was thinking. Operator did not update the file and just ran what was stored.

Big Power Manual Transmission (S6-53) Swap

Absolutely! I called the machine shop earlier.

Replacement rings are supposed to be cut tomorrow. Material arrived today. They tell me eta of early next week.

The flywheel bolts I planned on using weren’t going to be right. I ordered new ones and they’ll be here tomorrow or Friday.

Once I have the correct bolts I’ll bolt the whole thing up and make sure the clutch engages / disengaged fully and Starts correctly.

The transmission mount fits the chassis nicely. I cannot test the final fitment with the trans until I get the final ring.

I think I said it already but the clutch is really nice. These are going to need careful torquing procedures.

I usually try to wait and take pics with a proper camera but here is a phone snap:

It all fits, I'll be breaking in the clutch today!

    Initial impressions:

    - Transmission was heavy. I did this install alone, I really recommend a second set of hands.
    - Clutch is very manageable, light pedal.

Great news! Hope everything fits. Assuming it does, what is the status of the driveshafts? No point in running the stock based one that will be twisted in two with big power. Is CES going to measure once it gets a kit and arrange the DSS group buy on direct fit chromoly and carbon fiber shafts? Or are they available for order now?

    Yep everything fits!

I gave CES some measurements to have them made, I believe they are available to order now.

    Order some driveshafts!

I got an email from John at CES — he said if we can get enough people together to put in a larger order, the DSS driveshaft price could go down a bit. Anyone buying this 335i ZF GS6-53 trans adapter kit because they are making enough power to have broken the stock trans should be getting the DSS shaft. You have enough power to break the cobbled together stock shaft parts - they might fit but won’t let you put the power down.

I have a few miles on the car and I'm extremely pleased to say these are ready for release. It been a long road getting here.

< Comments on the clutch >

The clutch is very drive-able, it took a few miles to break in and you will definitely need a clutch stop. The full setup is somewhere around 32lbs. I experience zero chatter. I find it is still light enough to drive aggressively and heavy enough to drive around town with ease. Clutch pedal weight is very light maybe 10% over factory.

The 8.5" full face disks are a bit on the heavy side it feels like shifting a factory clutch. Going with a pucked-disk setup will reduce the shifting effort considerably, but it will theoretically result in a bit more aggressive bite. Your mileage may vary here as I have been daily driving 7.25" race disks for years.

The install of this clutch is a bit more technical than your standard setup, it requires adherence to torque specs and attention to detail. The spline length is extremely short. If the trans doesn't immediately seat you are probably resting on the inside disk, be very careful.

Overall I am very excited with the outcome, personally I like a heavy clutch so I would prefer a 20-30% increase over factory like I was anticipating but that's my only gripe.

< Comments on the kit overall >

The installation was a breeze, everything fits nicely. I should have probably slotted the trans brace to allow easier install (the mounts point out at a shallow angle), but if you leave the mounts loose until the transmission mounts are seated there is no problem. Same thing goes for the brace to chassis bolts. I had the laser shop etch the logo into the front but it didnt really come out. This was completely aesthetic I would have had them fix it I just didn't want to delay it any further.

The one trick to the whole kit is the DSSR. Since the trans is twisted a few degrees the DSSR has to twist the opposite way so the shifter ends up in the correct place. Since the shifter is so long it ends up being a fine tuning process. I have the correct length and angle for an oem e36 shifter, but if you are running something else you may end up with a not centered shifter. Its not likely to effect shifting but just general location is important. I leave you guys with a few options:
    1. Oem e36 shifter location
    2. Partially welded DSSR, ill leave off the rear connector and when you get your shifter installed you can mark it and weld it. Its less than 1 minute of welding.
    3. You measure shifter location, You can measure the length and I will match it and ship you a DSSR

The shift pattern of this transmission is really large, I really recommend a small short shifter. For clarity, it is not sloppy, just longer throws.

The automatic e9x 328i driveshaft is working perfectly to test the kit, It could definitely be a long term solution for someone. If you need more driveshaft (Like I'm guessing most of us do) Phil makes an excellent point.

I used the e36 shift fork and slave cylinder.

The final setup is listed at $3250 shipped. With either the 1000tq or 800tq clutch kit.

You can find it here http://www.22rpd.com/item.php?item=36

As far as information goes on the turbo setup, I think it will be best for you open a thread where we can start a dialog. You’ll find a wealth of information on he forums and you’re welcome to message me directly.
