Diameter and thickness. Anything more than 3" tho and you touch the gas tank. I just got a 3" chromoly one made, I hope I don't have issues myself.

Huh... so I guess it’s just a necessary evil going big power and you learn to live with it?

Not so much vibration it’s a safety thing?

Well the good news is when the transmission is almost 6” longer you end up with quite a bit higher critical speed and therefore less vibration.

Also once I have this trans mounted in a couple days I’ll look and see if we can fit a 3.5” driveshaft. A 3.5” aluminum shaft would be the perfect solution.

3.5 won’t fit due to the size of the opening between the gas tank saddles. CES uses a 2.75 CF DSS shaft. With CF you definitely don’t want any rubbing.

The vibration comes in part from the length and in part from the lack of guibo. I have a one piece CF shaft on my E90M3 with guibo and zero vibration. BMW factory fitted one piece CF shafts on the F80M3, with guibo.

My DSS one piece chromoly no guibo shaft I bought in 2017 vibrates just like the one I bought in 2013 or 2014 and the one I bought in 2015 or 2016.

So why not just use a guibo on all DSS? At certain power levels does that become a point of failure?

What about shimming the sub frame down to add clearance for a larger diameter drive shaft

Thats exactly what Dburt did....im planning on doing it to my car as well....Just use the same McMaster washers that are used when installing the Powerflex rear subframe bushings...

My SF is shimmed down about 1/2 inch with double MC washers front and single in rear. Pinion angle is an issue with one piece. Domestic motor conversions may be mounted higher or lower. You can lower an S52 about 1/4 to 3/8 inch no problem.

Might want the Chickinhed anti movement kit for the subframe. Then tolerance could be tighter on tank clearance and less risk for CF shaft. Been checking Walmart every day but have not seen the kit on the shelves yet.

DSS never bothered trying to make a shaft that would allow a guibo. A shaft shop probably could. The 2004 GTO might have a 3 bolt front piece that could be used on a custom shaft for an E36 guibo. Revshift makes an aluminum guibo with poly inserts (that supposedly causes vibration).

I've used the revshift poly guibo and it is a horrible vibration source. I think the factory 335 guibo would be perfect

Im also looking at cae style shifters for this setup, I really am looking forward to WOT 2-3 shifts.. something I refrain from currently hah.

With the full face, it should be very streetable.

My old HPF feramic clutch is nice, which I believe SBC made for them.

LOL! It’s in the large woman bra and girdle section. Dig deep in the discount bin, it’s at the bottom.

I have to install it and test it before I start producing them. It would be all done if I didn’t keep coming up with new mods to do. I’ve made a bolt on plate for the bottom of the subframe to get the diff out easier and I’ve just ordered an e46 M3 rear cover for the 210. The bolt pattern is the same but mount points are in a different spot than the ‘boomerang’ mount so there is going to be more cutting and welding in my future.

Ring fits. I have to shift two holes for the final design to be perfect, but I’ll be using this one in my car.

Tested the starter with an old auto starter ring.

Excuse the phone photos, it’s been a long day.

The S6-53 is about the same weight as a T56.at 123 lbs, depending on the model.

Just for the record I hate you. I should have waited another year to go 6 speed I guess..

If I hurt the 420g I'm in deep enough to just put another one in most likely though.

Does this change the location of the shifter when comparing to a zf shifter location?
