Retrofit Euro SMG cluster to an AUTO

I did some research but still couldn't find any useful information.

The Euro SMG cluster shows your gear position which is kind of cool. Am just wondering if retrofitting this to a E36 Auto is possible?

Have any of you found any article or write-up about this?

Anyone? Looks like there hasn’t been any prior success of doing so?

It’s probably possible as long as you’re handy with electronics.

On SMG cars there is a gear position sensor at the back of the selector rod and a separate module between it and the cluster to control the display. Through ibus messages.

If you can make your autobox somehow give the same gear position signals as the SMG sensor, the rest would be plug and play.

The display is a nice feature.
