Hi, I was wondering how much will my 2001 Imola Red e39 540i/A go for if I put it up for sale? I know that the color is pretty rare for 5 series in the U.S. The color is confirmed to be original paint too. The interior is near perfect, besides some burnt pixels. It has the sport package too (M-Sport steering wheel and Rims, rear lip spoiler).

The pricing depends more on what's been done to it and the mileage. Do you have service records?

It has 135,000 miles, and nothing in terms of aftermarket has been done to it, but it has completely new stock suspension and brakes. Im sure I have service records too.
Timing chains and guides still original? That would significantly drop the offer price for me. And the fact that it is an automatic....
Look at NADA value and base it at 75-80%, but be realistic with your condition. Most cars at 15-17 years old are in the "good" range. very few are excellent....
I would rate my car at Fair at the moment, even though mechanically it is excellent..... I have rust starting in my drivers door and trunk lid....
I'd guess $3k or so and wouldn't expect more. Red is rare on these cars because it was unpopular new so don't expect a premium for it.
Craig'slist is loaded with dirt cheap beater E39s so regardless of you car's condition that's what folks will compare. Sucks, I know.
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
Love imola red but yeah, no proof of timing chains is the downfall of 540s. You can pretty much double the price of the car with chains done.

I think an Imola 540i will go for more than 2-3k. That's just crazy talk. 135k and I would be asking 6k.
Rare colors command premiums. Aka Laguna seca blue.
