To keep the E36 legacy going, please post fastest known laps at any track you can think of and I can add it to the first post. My interest is to record the performance of the E36 chassis against the world's best.
Lap times do not need to be official records or in a race only, so qualifying counts in this thread. If you ran it, it counts.
This thread will assume good faith on the part of those posting times and those who learn of times recorded in other media outlets.
Racer's input establishes that qualifying laps and Time Trial cars do have the setup advantage, and so will unlimited classes over the lesser.
But to me, it's not logical to negate a faster time because it doesn't fit numerous criteria.
There is one criterion: E36! Anything E36 chassis, any motor, any mods.

Maybe you should do this on "fastest race lap". It's far easier to pull a fast lap in a DE or practice session or time trial (like GRM UTCC). Either way, it's your thread.
For VIR Full, if I remember correctly, Bryan Watts ran a 1:58 and change in 2009 at the April club race in his E36 CM race car.
I feel those racing door to door are more likely to hit a lap record clicking off dozens of laps in a row. Time trial/ Time Attack still has traffic but only 3 consecutive laps to achieve a fast time, maybe a slight advantage one to the other.

Nope. You will see car setups for TT sessions that burn down after 3 laps.

Regardless, this thread will note the fastest lap known. My interest is to record the performance of the e36 chassis against the world's best. This is something E36 owners can come together on

I have the current NASA GTS2 Lap Record at RdATL. In GTS2 Trim 3,100lbs w/ DR 211HP 205 TQ
1:39.4 Pulled a 1:38.9 in qualifying. March 2012
Thanks for posting a time, that 1:39 is pretty quick
One of my favorite videos, Mike Skeen driving an M3 at Road ATL, 2nd lap appears to be a 1:36, description says 230whp

Here's two hot laps of Thunderhill CCW Cyclone. Lap time was 2:05.23 Spent most of the day drifting (check my channel for drifting footage) but decided to throw on some grip tires and try out the new setup. I only did 3 grip hot laps total all day so I'm still getting used to the new suspension, brakes, cage and power so there's tons more potential. Here's the list of mods:
17x9.5 Apex ARC-8 with 255/40/17 Hankook RS-3
Ground Control + Koni S/A coilovers (525# F / 650#R)
UUC Sway barbarians (front full stiff / rear full soft)
Active Autowerke Stage 1.5 turbo (~300whp in video)
Blank OEM Rotors, Hawk HT10 pads, SS lines
LTW rear highrise spoiler
6 point welded cage
3300 lbs (2940 lbs with full tank + 180lbs(driver) + 180lbs(passenger))
Rest is stock

I'm in the middle of building an unlimited class time attack e36, this thread excites me.
Looking at the NASA TT Track records, a well prepped e36 is under 2:00, not by a lot, but under.
http://www.nasa-tt.com/Norcal_Track_Records
For example, the TTB record is a 1:58.9 in an e36. TTC 2:00.5 also e36
Add a second or so for the cyclone
2:05 with the cyclone is pretty decent.
Thank you Jon for posting a record with link, updated list. I don't know much about Thunderhill so thanks for your input
Im never original. Found this thread on Nasaforums searching for records http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=26036
Edit: and another thread for Buttonwillow http://www.trackhq.com/forums/f90/to...ap-times-3922/

Conditions need to be right. If you're door to door you have to take some defensive lines in order to keep the guy on your butt from getting greedy. And in any race you have to deal with traffic, be it faster or slower. Finally, your tires are at their very best for only a couple laps of the whole race.
As a result the fast laps are often in the 2 or 3 hot laps of qual, not in the 15 laps (or whatever) of the race.
From wannabe to has been in a few short years..... the older I get, the faster I was
I ran a 1:53.6 in the GTS-3 car a few weeks ago in the bypass(nasa) config :-)

this thread should be about E36 Record lap times with the least amount of money. Surely anyone can dump money into the motor, drivetrain, chassis, suspension, and it'll most high end cars all day long.
GTS-3 E36 M3 BMW last year we ran 240whp/2640#, this year we are 248whp/2728#
Thunderhill Bypass 1:53.6
Sonoma 1:42.9
Buttonwillow CCW1 1:59.9

NJMP Lightning - '95 E36 in GTS2 Trim - Record is 1:15. Planning on more this year
I should have re-read the thread title prior to posting as it is saying it's looking for records, not what's typical for a mildly prepped e36 with a decent driver. Then you have guys like Tony/TC Design who not only build great cars, but also can wheel. I see the those times and want to crawl under a rock. You may just want to look at Qual times and records from BMWCCA, NASA GTS etc for the various regions.
For reference however, last season in a 95 M3, 223 HP, 2900 lbs, 245/40 hoosiers, SA Konis, no aero, my personal best was a 1:52.0 at Sonoma. I was happy with that until I saw that 1:42 above. Something to aim towards at least!
Mosport, 1.34.9
e36 m3 with m50 mani, tc klines coilovers, continental slicks...2700lbs with cage.
OP you're gonna have to change the original back to me as RD ATL Lap record Holder in GTS2 be until Christ Puts Up...
Here's the proof.
139.344 DE's and Qualifying don't count for lap records, only Lap times during a RACE. I turned a 138.8 in Qualifying for that race..
