After much consternation and gnashing of teeth I've accepted the fact that my 85 needs to go on to another home. I haven't placed any official ads yet, thought I would give the collective here a shot at it first. I know, pics would be nice but Photobucket(sucks) has got me shut down, drop me a PM and I can email some to you. If you have an iPhone we could face time and I'll give you a tour.
1985 635CSI, automatic, Cinnabar Red, front air dam, M6 trunk spoiler, sport pack, original survivor car, original paint - as good as you would expect a 33 year old car that's been driven and not a garage queen to be.
Over the last 2 - 3 years -
- New radiator
- New coolant hoses
- New water pump
- New thermostat
- New drive shaft (Drive Shaft Specialists of Texas)
- New drilled brake rotors
- New brake calipers
- New front wheel bearings
- New front control arms with bushings
- New steering linkages
- MagnaFlow cat - cat is now hollow since an overheat while "playing around" with some tuning.
- Ireland Engineering stainless cat back exhaust
- Ireland Engineering plug wire set
- Dist cap and rotor
- New factory turn signal switch
- New factory ignition switch
- Dinan chip in engine control unit.
- Euro front turn lenses
- ABS pump deleted - $5000.00 plus for a new pump and wheel sensors were not going to make this a ten grand car. It stops much better since the flaky ABS pump was removed.
- Speedo jumps a bit but works - of course the odo has been dead for years. I got this car from a friend who had it for 15 years, I think it had quit working before he bought it. They all do that.
- 15" wheels from I believe an 89 or so 7 car - looks much better than the original TRX wheels and won't kill your wallet when you replace tires - tires have about half wear right now.
- I have a set of 16" wheels from an E39 that go with it, they look really nice!
- Trunk in great shape, tool kit pretty much all there, I think there may be a couple of "wrong" wrenches in it - blue rag is there.
- Front seat leather is toast - I have a set of sport seat covers on them that I got from BavAuto. Forward/backward motor on driver's seat out otherwise all other motions other than the head rests work. Rear seat leather looks really good.
- Rear panels behind rear seats - I removed the peeling vinyl (they all do that), welded a patch panel over the hinge screw dimple, filled and shaped them, painted to match interior. Looks much better than the peeling vinyl, much less expensive than a nice set of replacements that will peel again - did I mention they all do that?
- Door panels and all other interior - other than the cracked dash (they all do that) is in great shape.
- Small bit of rust in front fenders, lower rear part at bottom (most of them do that), spot of rust at rear window seal on right side - considering this car was delivered new and spent its early life in Tampa and has been driven - a lot - it's damn solid and very rust free - no rust in any major areas at all.
I'm probably leaving out some bits and pieces but that's the major stuff I can remember right now. This old car drives really nice, I had big plans to make it the way I want it and let it be my last car but things and life change. This is a nice survivor car that's been used as God and the Germans intended it to be used. I love this old car and hate to see it go, it's taken me several weeks to push myself to start this thread. The only other offering has been word of mouth to my buddy I bought it from and my friends at Bimmer Motor Works in Trussville Alabama.
Reduced to $4000.00, needs to go.

Can we get the last 7 digits of the VIN? Sounds like a nice car.

Do you think it has more than 125k miles?
This one will be at Mota Autohause in Birmingham in a week or so, Manuel is going to park it there for a couple of weeks for me.
It can be viewed and driven there.
tonib31 - trying to reply to PM but it doesn’t seem to be sending?
Ill check later - you may end up with 20 replies? LOL!
Car is at Mota Autohaus in Birmingham, May be gone after this weekend. Couple of people coming by today for a test drive - if they drive it they’ll buy it.
I have had some silly low ball offers - I’ll scrap it before I take less than $3500 for it. That’s why Manuel wanted me to bring it down to his place.
When this one goes its my last BMW. After years of being an enthusiast I think the ‘04 330 finally got to be my “last straw”. I needed/wanted something fun to drive without having to spend every weekend under the hood. So, the new daily driver is a just like new clean 2010 Camaro SS, LS3, 6 speed, “track pack” with 61k on it. Less weight and more HP than a 2010 M3 V8, only 100lbs heavier than a friends ‘02 M3. This one is about 300lbs lighter than the standard SS because of the track pack, still not sure what the order code is actually for that but I ran it down to the VIN number series for what I was looking for. LS3s are built like a tank, no terrible reviews for the first gen 5 Camaros, no endless lists of problems on the innerwebs. I’m going to really enjoy this car, should be good for 250/300k. Hopefully I’ll keep my license!
Just browsing the e24 because my daughter may need a car soon (just daily city driver). (not buying anything yet, but may be on this and the e30 board to ask questions. Otherwise may just find her an cheap Civic and not spend time under the hood).
But the main reason I am replying is because of your avatar! Need one of those for my car. (switched mine from the 50th logo to what I have now, but kept it on the avsform).

My Cars - 1991 BMW 850i - mine for fun, 1993 Saab 900c - mine for fun, 2008 Lexus is250 - my daily driver, 2003 Dodge Durango - my wife's, 1994 Acura Legend - gave it to kid
That “50” logo is pretty bad ass! My avatar idea came from a friend, he’s a BMW Motorcycle enthusiast.

Also, thanks for watching. She’s gone to a nice guy in Bham who I think will take good care of the car and keep it going. It was fun!
