Then you will have to bleed it with the expansion tank cap - but this can only be done up to an engine temperature of 70C or so.....

Funny thing I have to chime in with. Why do european cars have such terrible cooling systems? I have dumped and refilled hundreds of US cars with no problems. Based on my limited knowledge BMW's suck, Mini's suck na Audi's suck. They suck so bad that you risk ruining your engine any time you drain the coolant. I ruined my Audi because the temp gauge was in the radiator and the idiot light was in the engine. It had a dual acting thermostat to short cycle the coolant. It failed so the engine got cooked with plenty of good coolant in the radiator and the gauge reading normal.

I just lost a heater hose on my suburban and it got hot and I kept on driving. Got home, fixed the leak, filled her up and away I went.

The worst Part is that each time i brought the Car to my mechanic, He badly repaired the actual Thing but Then i have another issue thats even worse! Like this year, i let him replace the rear wishbones and the Front traction Arms ( i Hope you call Them that ) and after that was replaced i got a very nice surprise! A k a my coolant Problem right now....😥 I think i need to start learning how i can do all that stuff on my own...because i Spend thousands on that Car and most of the Part due to my mechanics messy repairing.....😒

These cars have too many issues to have a mechanic fix it. Even if you found a good one it's just way too expensive. Most of the things are quite easy to fix yourself.

Yeah, my Porsche's are like nuclear science to get burped completely. I really think maintaining a nuclear reactor would be more simple. But to be honest my Acura Legend was a total pain as well. Sometimes took weeks or months to get it totally air-free. I never really had to worry about it much on any of my american cars. Fill it and go.

Could the Thermostat be a reason for my problems? Or still Air in the system?

The best way to find coolant leaks is to pressurise the system - there are loads of cheap kits to do this - and if you buy a replacement expansion tank cap you can make your own by fitting a valve to that....

Harbor freight has several. Amazon is also a good source. I'm thinking of swapping to Evans, and I'll pick one up then. Need one for my Porsche's anyways, they are just as bad as these.

    Edit:

Sorry Timm, realized you were talking about leaks here. You can also use the pressure testing kits to get a better burp of the system, can help getting all the air out. Some guys swear by it.

Alright im Back Home and Back on Track for repairing my 725....
How exactly am i supposed to bleed the system at 70°C with the Expansion Tank? Can Something Go wrong or could i make Something worse If i dont do it correctly?

    Thanks in advance!

    Use the same routine:

    http://www.meeknet.co.uk/E38/E38_Ble...ing_System.htm

....but instead of opening the bleed screw loosen the expansion cap - but, this can only be done up to around 70C otherwise coolant will shoot out!

Alright, i have Bled the system and followed exactly each step of your instruction, First Thing i noticed right away as the Car was at its optimal temperature, the Car didnt Shake, Not a little Bit Like before my Problems. So i figured maybe my car's running again normal? Atleast i Hope so, in a couple of days i need to tow a heavy load Trailer anyways so i can tow with my BMW for Testing to see If everything works properly as it should. And after a couple of Tests nearby im going to Dare and Drive further distances But that will still need a time due to my overly scheduled Work Times 😂.
So thanks in advance If my Car will Run normal again! 😃

    Its me again! Lol....
    Same issue...

I have literally removed every coolant Hose and pretty much drained the engine aswell along with the Radiator, i Tried to get Into the engine to the head gasket but since i wouldve needed to readjust the Timing Chain i have fit the engine parts Back on, refilled and Bled the cooling system, the only Problem is that i cant Test Out the Car until i get the gasket for the Vacuumpump because its leaking oil.
My question is , could the Radiator be the issue of my coolant Problem? Because since i replaced it, my coolant was always more than normal, with that i mean that my engine is getting hotter than usual and thats the cause of my issue? I think that my mechanic Put a cheap Chinese Radiator in my 725 and maybe a to little aswell, its also lightly dented in some places.
After i fix the oil leak, im going to Check how hot the engine really gets.
After that i will Upgrade my Progress

    Any Help is appreciated!

I should be able to fetch the gasket tomorrow, after i installed it, im going to let warm Up the Car and Check the engine temperature.
What is the healthy Temperature Range for a 725tds? I Tried to search for it but didnt find anything useful.

Help is appreciated in any way!
    Thanks in advance

The oil leak is sealed, the Car runs Smooth Like Always except that my Car is overheating now, i let him Run til 118° C. After i let him cool down i will bleed the System once again and After that im going to try him again.
My question now.... If the Cars still overheating After bleeding, what Other reasons could make my Car or any Car overheat? ( Except Head gasket )

2nd question... What If the Radiator was Bad From Beginning on and the Car was Just programmed that the Temperature gauge stays in the middle? The Car also never smelled of coolant when warm, since i Got that new Radiator it Always smelled From it.

3rd question...are the Temperatures the Same From the different engines types at the e38's? Like, whats the healthy Temperature for a 740i? And would it be the Same as to my 725tds?

    Thanks in advance!

310€ and 3 weeks later...Head gasket replaced....Car runs, pulls good Maybe better than before but while i was taking him Home i Heard weird noices coming from the engine ( occured while driving and continued Afterwards even at idling) . Turns Out that probably the Chain tensioner is Broken and needs fixing, means i need to Return him tomorrow once again ...😥

I Wonder when my Car will Run normal again, Maybe never Maybe After this service. Who knows what will occur next.
But i know one Thing. As much as i want to keep that Car, If it brakes one more time, i have to sell that Car.
I spent meanwhile thousands on that Car and it never runs reliable, this year only, i nearly threw 1k out of the window for fixing that Car and it still doesnt Run.
    😒

1K EUR is nothing in a year on this car, I used to spend that on it monthly
