My 2000 2.8 L Z3 with automatic transmission has developed a high pitch humming noise when running at a steady constant speed (any speed). Noise disappears upon acceleration and deceleration.
Can anyone help.
Differential??? In buying older cars, I usually just change the diff fluid to Redline or Royal Purple. It quiets them down, and it's good preventative maintenance.
Does the noise change when turning or lane changing? Is the noise present at idle? Does the noise change depending on what speed you are going? Does it change depending on what RPM your are at?
Is the car new to you?
The old GM transmission fitted to the 99-2000 automatics loves to resonate in the cabin and creates a whirring sound especially when not accelerating or decelerating; because of the way it was mounted. BMW had released documents a long time ago addressing this noise, and some alternate transmission mounts were used.
It could be that.. or something else.
