    Good decision? 530i

So after a lot of contemplating about which e34 to get my requirements have been pointing towards the 530i.

I know I want a car that I will be keeping for a long time, possibly forever. So my number one must for the car is that it is rust free (just above being a manual.)

As much as I would love an M5 I just don't have the spare change for it. Next best is the 540i/6 which is going to take forever to find as there aren't very many of them around.

So I figure the 530i is far less desirable so should be easier to get for cheap and from the sounds of it it is the easiest motor swap around to put a m60b40 in it.

So good plan to get a rust free one and fix it up? Also I will probably not do the motor swap right away probably run it for a while with the 3L until it blows or I need to replace a clutch or something. Also I could pick up one with a blown head gasket or blown motor for even cheaper to swap in the 4l

I suppose the best answer is; get the car you want. I see 540i/6's for sale often in the facebook group, although expensive.

You have the right idea. Get a rust free chassis. Everything else can be fixed.

I suppose rust can be fixed too....by buying a rust free chassis!

First I read "530i is for me" and one eyebrow went way up, then read further and yeah, sounds sensible. You might even do an M62, which are more common anyway. Speaking of which, check out the link in my sig. There's light surface rust in places but it's pretty clean by MI standards. Paint is a different story, unfortunately.

I couldn't see any rust on it!

Great looking car. Although I'm hoping to spend quite a bit less and I'm not a big fan of the routings.

I know finding a rust free car locally is going to be tough I would even take one with a little rust. It will be a third car so it will be garaged in winters.

Good to hear from the experts that it isn't a crazy idea.

I just hope I can get one that is any color but oxford green!
