Hi..
I have BMW 525 D E39 2003, and recently, (especially when car engine is cold) i can smell some of exhaust smoke inside my car. Not much, but enough to sense that exhaust smell.
Any thoughts, what to check/do first?
Thanks
Had this on my 540i. In my case the valve cover gasket was leaking oil which was dripping on the headers. Pretty easy fix.

Thanks
Will try all suggestion.

Also check that one of the spark plugs hasn't loosened up. Had this happen on mine with that one brand/model plug (Bosch 4+ maybe?)

Make sure the 2 cabin air ducts are sealed properly to the firewall too, otherwise the smoke will get blown into the cabin.
Run your hand across the bottom edge of the valve covers, if the gaskets are leaking there will be oil present.
