Warning gong speaker located under glovebox replacement

Currently have an rpm based whine, took it to a shop who diagnosed it as the speaker that has failed, part # 65819155105 shown here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=65_0519

They said it might be a bad capacitor or something. Sadly enough I love this shop but they are going out of business due to bay area lease costs so I'll be doing this DIY. It seems to be the same part on many many models however I can't find any replacements, and the pricing is anywhere from $11-90. Can anyone offer some insight here?

Get one from a junkyard or a part out. Probably be $1.

Not sure if there are any part places near me in the Bay Area, but I might just pick one up on Ebay for a few bucks, any clue on how to access it?

I was just in there looking at that part. I had removed the glovebox but you may be able to get at it just by opening it up and pulling it forward.

As said, they never go bad so it's a basically worthless part and you should be able to get one for $5 or less.
You just remove the 3 or so screws/pop rivets to remove the trim it's in, then it's just clipped into that trim.

Does anyone know if flat disconnecting it right now could cause any error codes (CEL?) I "should" be able to remember my keys and such that the alarm is used for in the meantime.

Well I decided to man up and go tear into it, turns out with the glovebox open the speaker can be popped right out, and once it was out I started up the car and the sound was gone as expected. And no CEL so far (didn't drive the car, just started)

No, disconnecting the GONG will not cause any CEL (check engine light) because it is NOT part of the car's emissions system. The CEL/SES light is the warning light for emissions related faults based on the 1996 federal OBD II mandate (onboard diagnostics).

The gong is associated with the car's check control system, clock, and some OBC (onboard CPU) functions. The warnings are generated from the LCM (Light Check Module) and from the IKE (clock & OBC)
